An interesting experiment

Post by gordon »

Guys,

I just had a thought and performed an experiment. I was wondering how my two G5SC cars would do with the new upside-down magnet rule, so I checked them both. In each case the cars stuck to the track but a slight shake (!) dislodged them. As they are, they would not pass the strict upside-down rule, but they're almost legal. Both cars are registering just about 200 gm on the Magnet Marshal, the stated limit for G5SC.

I then checked my two 2015-prepared Mod Prod cars on the Magnet Marshal. The Pioneer Mustang Notchback came in at 165 gm and the Ninco Mini at 219 gm, quite a large difference despite their both just passing the upside-down rule. When I checked the total downforce on each without subtracting their weight the Mustang came in at 250 gm and the Mini at 308 gm.

I'm not jumping to any conclusions as yet, but if the new rule is successful for MP and RGT, maybe we will want to change G5SC to the same upside-down rule and eliminate the need for the Magnet Marshal altogether. Food for thought.

Perhaps some of you others with G5SC cars can perform the test and report back here on the results.

Yes GG,

Its a compulsive analysis ... and here's my school of thought :D

... with your G5 Sport Cars being compared to your Mod Prod Cars for the strict upside-down rule.

Also sounding like a great idea (down the road) having the new USD rule with G5SC class.

Yet, thinking when it comes to - a car must not be able to magnetically adhere to standard Scalextric track piece in an upside down position - plus with no slight shaking (how ever slight, slight might be) of the reinforced track section that could/may help to knock cars out of position to make it look ... like they're legal.

So, just like how its done in the Rally Car class regs.

viewtopic.php?f=6&t=633

You setting up a mount, for the reinforced track section to be at a 45º slope for a Rally car test.

I would like to recommend - somewhat the same idea setting up mounts (at 90º angles to the vertical) for the reinforced track section to be horizontal (& in sturdy way) for this USD RGT and MP cars test.

If you wish - I can try and get my carpenter buddy (who also built the MGT 18 cars display board) to make an appropriate mount/stand for the reinforced track section to be level with the base.

Of course with enough room required for one's hand and slot car in that same space.

That sounds like a good idea Gordon.

Hi guys i did some testing on my GR5 cars and they did need a slight shake , with this in mind we can make it a lot easier for set up in this class. its something to look at. Hi Gordon can you post out the class groupings for this year . Thanks Ramesh

Luke, thanks for this offer. Here's my suggestion for what we need:

Once we have this, we then attach a Single Lane Half-straight (C7016) to the inside top and we should be good to go!

We actually don't need the base, just the top and two sides.

GG,

You are a real Boss at these things yes because it beats me how you do these sort of things - neat drawing nonetheless.

Also, would you believe (or not) ... I had a feeling you were going to do (a diagram) something like this on the forum :)

I was even planning dropping by your office today to discuss this topic but couldn't & it looks like you (again) beat me to it here.

Anyway, I will give my carpenter buddy (James) a call tomorrow and hopefully we could make arrangements with this type of project.

The only thing though, not sure if I will get it done by this Thursday for Mod Prod class because its all due to me not having a real 1:1 car as yet - to make a personal visit all the way up in Petit Valley to his workshop.

Mind you, I will still try and get it done.

:?: As you already know, I have an item like this but I'm wondering if you have one too ..?
  • Scalextric Sport Track - C7016 Half (single lane) Straight 175mm
Asking now because of all the years racing ~ I never saw any lying around @ FRC.

Just to let you know though - sorry about all the so on and so forth but Consider it Done 8-)

Luke dont make this a problem trying to get it for Thursday, but it will be useful in the future. I have to search to see if I have an extra C7016 stored somewhere.

A-Okay GG :D

Thanks for taking that pressure off me and I'm now remembering when I had the C7016 pack of 4 so long ago ...

I gave Alex, Boo, Paul one each and kept one for myself as a test track piece for a car's downforce among other slotcar testing.

This means if you don't find yours (or don't have) its not a problem.
