How about this radical suggestion to be implemented at some future date:
A minimum lap time stipulation for all but our IROC and Open classes. These classes include:
Historic Saloon (HS)
Vintage Sports (VS)
Group 5 Sports Cars (1970-1975)
Modified Production (MP)
Restricted GT (RGT)
Slot.It Challenge (SC)
Formula 1 (F1)
So here are the proposed rules for these classes:
Car must conform to the body specifications of the specific class.
The only other requirement is that it must not lap under the minimum time for the class. (A leeway of up to 2% under the stipulated minimum is allowed.)
A very neat idea Gordon for some enjoyable and competitive racing across the FRC board ~ to me it sounds somewhat like OTB racing ...
I think with such a suggestion - RC class should also be included and even featuring the Scalextric C8211 Flying Leap track section and maybe (not pushing the envelope much here) the Scaley C248 classic track Hump Bridge.
After all, its what Rally Racing about - Leaps and Jumps
Realistically, we would need to test this out with a single class before committing to it. Also, we will need to have the race management software running to record fastest laps for each car in each race.
Interesting concept Gordon. Would need to give it some more thought though. One serious consideration is the additional set up time that would be required to properly monitor individual lap times. Luke, what is OTB racing ? If we are giving consideration to making changes to classes (and I know that this would not be implemented now in any case), I still maintain that I would love to see a non-magnet class. I would particularly like to see older cars such as Historic Saloons and Vintage Sports cars lapping at more realistic speeds. An HS car, now doing a 7 second lap, assuming a 75 ft. track length, is doing a scale average speed of 243 mph ! Properly sorted without magnets, these cars should be able to lap at about 10-11 seconds, for a much more (but still very fast) realistic 170 mph average. Any takers ?
Steve
Steve, there are very many clubs and individuals all over the world that do not race with magnets. Just this morning I was reading some SlotForum posts where several guys said that the first thing they do when they get a news slot car is remove the magnets.
We have our magnet-less Rally class, so that's one. What I would like to see is reduced magnetism on some of our "Stock" classes, but that would mean using Magnet Marshal for them.
BTW, OTB = out the box (unless Luke has thought up yet another new acronym!).
Thanks for enlightening Steve and I wasn't thinking of any other meaning, but exactly what you wrote.
Although - there are a number of other verified definitions ... and not related to 132 slotcars.
