RACE REPORT #133 - JULY 11TH 2013

It was great to have our "overseas" drivers Peter (Nigeria) and Ray (USA) in attendance for our high-speed event for FRC's fastest classes, American Muscle, GT and LMP. Expecting to be here for three weeks, Peter brought along a bunch of cars some of which he shared with Steve who had helped him prepare them for the digital FRC track and classes. On a shorter trip, Ray came by more to just "be here" and although he didn't race, he and Ramesh's guest Bunny did a marvelous job of trying to marshall the extremely quick cars, no easy job when six 4-5 sec per lap cars are circulating. Ray also set-up a small video camera and recorded some of the action. I'll be posting some of these on the forum later.

South boys Ramesh and son Luke B. continued their ongoing competitive run with very fast cars in all three classes, Luke B. setting two new class lap records. Despite their pace, it was not a total walkover, with competition coming from all the other drivers at various times in the night. All the AM wins were taken by drivers named Luke, so maybe the others should think of renaming themselves! GT and LMP victories were a bit more evenly spread with wins going to Luke, Luke B., Ramesh and myself. While running second in the fourth GT race, I had the unfortunate luck to drive through Ramesh when he backed off in turn one on the final lap to avoid a de-slotted car. With no time to do the compulsory stop-and-go, I was demoted to last place, eliminating my chance to share victory in the class championship with the eventual winner, but that's racing.

Having started late and there being much attrition and delays for repairs during the night, I didn't get to bed till just before 2AM, something I'm not keen to repeat in upcoming events. Despite this everyone enjoyed the night and, as always, it was particularly nice to have Peter and Ray present.

New Lap Records
  • GT - 4.411 sec (Luke B., Scalextric TVR Speed 12)
  • LMP - 4.474 sec (Luke B., Scalextric Caddilac Northstar)

Great night as usual at FRC and having Peter and Ray there made the event even more special. Peter had some delicious cars for us to ogle, even if not to race on the night (Anglia, Zakspeed Capri, Porsche 917, Ford P68 etc.) as well as his race cars. Ray didn't have any of his actual cars but had tons of photos of them on his computer. He really has a fantastic collection !
Congrats to the two Lukes for taking the wins in all three categories and to Luke B. and Ramesh on their overall first and second place finishes.
Looking forward to the next event.

I noticed some Great Sportsmanship displayed at this event and see how, is times like these when you can sort the sheep from the goats :D

Hope to see more of it because the racing will only get more enjoyable and better for all - Yes a win is a win but in this case who cares 2 days (if so much) later ;)

Look at Micheal 7 (most find it boring) and Lance 7 (how it all gone) so who gives a lump of green pooh for that

We have more than enough rules to work with - So fellas, how about holding it down (bad behaviour) and enjoy the moment :D
