The subliminal roots of FRC's scenery

Post by gordon »

Hi Guys,

I was going through some old - very old - slot car magazines from a small collection I still have from my early slot car days in the 1960's and came across a couple of articles in one particular magazine which I remember leaving a big impression on me way back then. The magazine was called "Model Car Science", the year was 1963 and I was ten years old. Here's the cover with one of the articles in question circled in red in the bottom left corner:

This article was about the steps involved in adding realistic scenery to a slot track. I remember reading it over and over and having a dream of one day building a permanent track like it, complete with elevations and scenery.

The following article in the same magazine featured a beautifully laid-out four-lane track with realistic scenery which just added to my desire to create one like it:

Believe it or not, the very next page (and the final page in the magazine) featured the "Club of the Month" - "Golden Gate Model Road Racing Club" - with pictures of their track which also was fully decorated with elevations and scenery:

Little did I know that it would take me 47 years before I had a realistic-looking track of my own!

So that's a little insight into the subliminal roots of my desire to have - and inspiration for - what has become FRC.

Thanks to Model Car Science for planting the seed those 47 years ago , and to Gordon who made the dream, which all of us who race at FRC enjoy, come true.

GG ~ Its/You freaking me out :o 8-)

Interestingly, Bethany tells me that line from time to time and found I could use it now

I was born in 1963 and such a strange thing to read about today with this story of yours ... in my life span so far.

Well done my good (10 years my senior) friend :D
