New winch cable

Post by gordon »

Hi Guys,

I've been a bit concerned about the winch cable of late (the cable that comes from the collector ring for the table cables to the winch) since its been there since 2008. Although the cable used throughout is tested at 1,700 lbs, this particular cable is the one which takes the full load when raising and lowering the track.

Once again O'Brie came to my assistance, meeting me at Peake's on Saturday to purchase a new cable and the other hardware necessary to install it and again this evening when I helped him install it (I held the flashlight and mixed the Martinis).

The good news it that the new cable is substantially thicker than the original (forgot to ask the test strength, but it's got to be well over 2,000 lbs) and best of all, its brand new. Here are two pics:

I think we're good for at least another three years!

Very nice Gordon!
How much would you estimate the table, track, and scenery weigh?

Ray, I had planned to weigh it at one point but haven't got there yet. If I had to guess, I would say somewhere in the region of 600 lbs, but I may be way off.

Whatever happened with you for Carnival? We missed you at our FRC event.
