RACE REPORT #231 - Apr 27th 2017 (FLNM, RC, SC)
Just five drivers took to the track for our first ever Formula Libre No-Magnet (FLNM) races. Four of these also took place in the scheduled rally (RC) stages and Slot.It Challenge (SC) competition. Starting with FLNM, we saw two Peugeot 405s, one Lancia 037, one Ferrari F430 and one Audi R18 LMP - very diverse cars - literally rubbing fenders on the track. When it came time for the rally cars, what was amazing is that there was not a single de-slot by any car over the three 5-lap, single-car stages. That's 60 laps of flat-out driving without de-slotting! And it wasn't as if drivers weren't pushing. Everyone kept digging deeper so that each improved his time with every stage run. SC competition was broken into two pairs of cars, one pair racing for the win, the second pair for third place.

Congratulations to the winners.
Next event's classes: Class grouping D: Formula 1 (3 races), GT (3 races), LMP (3 races). As usual, don't forget to see the updated fastest times for the FRC classes to know what the benchmarks are for your cars, the updated class average qualifying times and the updated fastest times for 2015.
See you on the circuit...

Gordon,
I didn't have any race tune slotcars of my own but was fully supported in each class by Steve, Ramesh and you respectively. I can't remember if I thanked you'll (at the time) personally but had lots of appreciation racing each one of these cars - even though I placed them all in forth place positions
The FLNM event was a very encouraging and energetic race ..! I believe the qualifying lap times done - would be very useful data for the No-Magnet racing method and could even be applied to the new F1 chassis setup you were showing us at this event.
We all know how Steve has great value for this style of (non-magnet) racing but would you and other racers consider a ~ F1NM slotcar event ..
On a separate note - concerning the 4 FRC IROC classes and how arrangements was made (way in advance) returning the SGTC IROC cars (to me) at this event ... Do you have any plans arranging a new racing order for the now - 3 FRC IROC events ..

Great night of racing as usual at FRC, despite the relatively small driver turnout. I really enjoyed racing all these classes. Thanks Gordon and Ramesh, for proposing this non-magnet event. Maybe we could have more of it in the future ! You're welcome Luke, re use of my Ferrari F430. It wasn't as fast as the leading cars but was not that far off and, as I know as I was practicing with it earlier, was as pleasure to drive. It is an almost stock Scalextric car (stock motor, guide, rims, axles, gearing etc.) with just some minor tweaks.
Congrats to Ram on winning all classes raced and naturally, Champion Driver of the event. Congrats to us all on the 5-way tie for Index Of Performance. I think this is a first !
Luke, re your comment on F1 non-magnet cars, I very much like the idea. I would like to see one set up and running in non-mag. configuration to assess its suitability.
Gordon, could you please insert qualifying times for the event ?

Super night of racing all of the classes were so enjoyable, buy my highlight was the non mag class, no one knew how their cars would work, so it was anyone s game. Thanks again guys for being good company and enjoying slot car racing as much as i do . O Brie we missed you,see you all soon.I would like to suggest we add this non mag class as a std fixture, bye Ram.
Re: Race report #231 - Thursday Mar 27th 2017 (FLNM, RC, SC)
I'm sure the others would like it too Ram. I remember you recommended only sticking to silicone tyres for the class so that we don't have the rubber tyre oiling like we have for the much shorter rally stages. I'm sure everyone will agree to this.RameshB wrote:I would like to suggest we add this non mag class as a std fixture, bye Ram.

I would love to see this no-mag class added as a regular fixture. If it is, I would agree with the silicone tyre requirement.
