FRC 100th Event - 100 Minutes of Endurance Racing

Date: Saturday 5th May, 2012
Time: 1:00 PM onwards

Classes:

• Vintage Sports - 20 minutes endurance
• Restricted GT - 40 minutes endurance
• Slot.It Challenge - 40 minutes Endurance

Determining Driver Pairings
Two-minute timed sessions will be done using FRC's Porsche Cup cars. Drivers will be paired by matching fastest with slowest, inwards, i.e. pairings will be 1&12 - 2&11 - 3&10 - 4&9 - 5&8 - 6&7. If there are over 12 drivers, extra drivers will be added to the middle, moving outwards. For example, 13th driver will be paired with 6&7, 14th with 5&8, etc. These pairings will apply to all classes.

Food and Drinks
This being a very special occasion (100 events since we started counting them should be, shouldn't it?), we're going to cook-up some good food. Since we haven't determined exactly what we're doing here, I'd like some suggestions and volunteers. As for drinks, remember to bring a cooler.

Tentative Timetable

• 1:00 PM - 3:00 PM - Track set-up and open practice (all classes)
• 3:00 PM - 3:30 PM - Driver-pairing qualifying sessions (using Porsche Cup cars)
• 3:30 PM - 4:00 PM - Open practice (all classes)
• 4:00 PM - 4:30 PM - Race qualifying sessions (Vintage Sports, Restricted GT, Slot.It Challenge)
• 5:00 PM - Racing begins.

There will be breaks between each race with at least one long one to cook and eat.

Everything (except menu, so far) seems well thought out and it should be great fun. One thing I'm not seeing , and I don't know if I missed it somewhere, is how qualifying for the actual races ( not team determination) will be done, that is, who gets to qualify each car.

Steve, each team will decide on who qualifies the cars. It could be a different person for different classes.

The other alternative would be for all drivers to qualify the cars and we take the quickest time of each team. Of course this will take a little longer.

Alex, cars are not a problem. An excellent driver like you will have no trouble getting a works drive

Gordon ~ Hope you like my (NEWS Post) Endurance Countdown? Thought it would add some more excitement to the racing and shake up the guys a bit to register too. BTW, do you remember that one of the Porsche cars (for driver pairings) is having some issues with the chip from its last event

David (aka boo) ~ You always say you dont like the Porsche Cars or is that you prefer silicone over rubber tyres Hear what to do to hold them down on track and show them your real skills - have drinks after driver pairings

Luke, yes I like the Endurance Countdown post. Now you have to keep updating it every day (hour? minute?)!

From the moment I thought about your suggestion for picking driver-pairings I thought of the cars and realised that the Porsches are probably best since they are very evenly matched and they require the most driving skill of the three FRC "IROC" classes. At the same time I remembered the blown chip and immediately ordered some F1 chips from HotSlots so we're covered. Even if we don't get the time to chip the car, we need to do more than one q-session anyway so we'll just use five cars instead of six if necessary.

I agree with you using the PC cars & great to know you have that 1 car issue under control...
