RACE REPORT #339 - May 10th 2025 (KBnm, VSGTCnm, VSPRnm)

We had just five drivers at our 339th event, this one for our Kitbash, Vintage Sports GT and Vintage Sports Prototype classes. Despite the relatively small turnout, it was actually a very enjoyable evening of racing, with Ramesh again attending. Both Merryl and Kent also turned up, but neither raced.

It was the first event where we applied the new method for determining the magnetic effect of motors, the new requirement being that the car be placed on a single lane Scalextric track piece and the rear raised to see whether the track stuck to the car. If it stuck, the car is illegal. Simple as that. Fortunately no car failed the test.

Relative newcomer Mark (Millar) attended and drove in all the races and it was great to see how he progressed, his driving improving with each race. Congrats Mark! Ramesh had his usual extremely well put together cars which dominated qualifying for each class, in the end winning all but one race.

After arriving at the track, I realised that I'd forgotten my phone at home, so Luke thankfully stepped in and took all the pictures for this event, with me just doing their final cropping for this report.

Some pics to start things off, thanks of course to Luke:

Great evening of racing at FRC !
Was great to have Ram with us to race, all the way from South. Also great to have Mark racing the full event. Kent made an appearance and as usual amazed us with his knowledge of all things Porsche ! Merryl arrived while the event was under way and as usual, provided very welcome marshaling assistance. Great to see two previously unraced cars, these being Ram's lovely RX7 and my Lola T70 Mk3. Both ran well.
The racing was exciting as ever, with some good battles in all classes. Congrats to Ram on winning Kitbash and Vintage Sports GT and to Ram and Gordon on jointly winning Vintage Sports Prototype. Congrats also to Ram on taking the event's overall victory. Kudos to Luke on taking the Index Of Performance accolades.
Looking forward to the next event.

Hey Steve,

Other than the actual & well detailed Race Report by Gordon :!:

That's a great review / response by you, with a very comprehensive list of driver's names 8-)

However, you forgot to mention / left out 3 other special persons ... one wasn't present, one only dropped by early (for awhile) & another much later :D
  • Names: Peter, O'brie & (most importantly) your Son Jonathan respectively :)
All in all ... we all had a grand time racing (hit or miss) and glad to mention those 3 other guys ;)

Looked over report (again) & must say, I had some great 132 racing thrills ... to the point (and for first time in a long time) stayed for the entire 2 rounds of RD339 event 8-)

I had some enjoyable & exciting races between Gordon & Steve with repeat finishes respectively in the 3 classes:
  • 3rd spot finish / KB x 2
  • 2nd spot finish / VSGT x 2
  • 4th spot finish / VSPR x 2
So much so ... in VSGT had lots of free time to actually look at the monitor, while checking on my position compared to the other drivers.

It felt something like a "fever dream" because having the time to view monitor for so long during a race, doesn't normally happen :D
