RACE REPORT #308 - Apr 15th 2023 (BTCCnm, GTnm, LMPnm)

Our 308th event saw just four drivers attending, but despite this we had a lot of good racing, running two for each of the three classes - BTCC, GT and LMP.

The Powerbase and track worked from start to end without any serious problems. The only issue was the inability to stop dynamic braking for all cars despite turning it off in the SSDC software. I've held back from updating the Powerbase firmware, but plan to do so before the next event to see if this sorts out the braking.

It was great to have Luke stay and drive in all the races and hang out with us afterwards having a beer or two, just like the old days. He brought along two new cars which he had on display, the first being this lovely Scalextric Aston Martin:

The second was this smaller-scale 1/43 Carrera Go Alpine with his favorite driver at the wheel, Fernando Alonso:

Unfortunately I forgot to take pics of the second GT race grid, however O'Brie's McLaren was again on pole, followed by my McLaren, my Honda driven by Luke and Steve's Ferrari 512BB. Steve had opted to change to the Ferrari and therefore had to start at the back of the grid.

Great afternoon as usual of racing at FRC !
It was nice to have Luke show up and do a full programme of racing-the first for him in a long time but hopefully the first of many more to come. A bonus of his visit was the two lovely new cars he brought along for us to see.
It was great to get going so soon after having arrived there as the track did everything (almost) that was expected of it. The racing was great fun as usual but slightly marred by more than one car having to retire with what appeared to be chip issues. In the last race, there was the hilarious spectacle of Luke's car chalking up lap after lap according to the computer with the car fully stationary for a while. Not sure what was the cause of this but there were two best lap times in this race which were also very much incorrect. Maybe this was the system's way of telling us to stop for a drink !
Congrats to O'Brie on winning GT Class !
Looking forward to the next event.

By the way Gordon, the grid photos for both LMP races have the cars incorrectly identified (although the report has them properly named).

I made sure to attend this week's (No.308) event of 14 years racing 1:32 Digital Slot-cars at FRC ... especially being present https://www.frcforum.com//FRC/Racing/En ... ort_1.html at the very first (No.1) outing 8-)

Thanks to Gordon, Steve & O'brie for making the evening a VIP Special One :D

Must mention, other than the warm welcome, glad you'll had the pleasure of viewing my NEW slot-cars ... Also, like how you each provided a token of appreciation - for example - model cars (for me) to race, cold beers, snacks and some lead weight for my very own non-mag (Aston Martin DBR9) slot-car build in the TBR class, which will be held in the near future.

Even though there wasn't a full grid of drivers ... the races were still very thrilling. Yes, the report is showing how I finished dead-last in each class but in trying very hard to keep up, something rather strange (and funny) happened in the final LMP race. It's as if the computer (felt sorry for and) favored me for at least one victory because when the race was stopped for a track call - I noticed my timer was still running and very fast to boot. Both O'brie & Steve motioned to Gordon in a (somewhat) frantic way ... but had no idea what was happening :?

Below is the screen shot of that race-result & will give a good idea what happened with (me) driver 4:
Image

Of course, my only 1st. place victory was disallowed but all in all the evening was well enjoyed and you'll guys have done a great job mastering every sector of the circuit Non-Mag style :)

Luke, always glad to have you and glad you enjoyed it. Especially glad that you stayed for the whole thing and on top of that, helped Steve and I pack up! Look forward to seeing the Aston run when next we do a TBR event for the Endurance category.

Here's a curtly report of my finishing results in green ...
  • BTCC Class:
    Race 1 ... 20 - 20 - 20 - 18
    Race 2 ... 20 - 20 - 19 - 11 ... DNF :(

    GT Class:
    Race 1 ... 20 - 20 - 20 - 19
    Race 2 ... 20 - 20 - 20 - 19

    LMP Class:
    Race 1 ... 20 - 19 - 19 - 17
    Race 2 ... 20 - 14 - 14 - 10 ... Win Disallowed :D
Results don't look all that bad but with a bit more tracktime - could make the podium ;)

In other words - I was being watched in the mirrors

Yeah Luke, you were competitive and you’ll only get more so as you have more track time.
