It seems that FRC events and rain are attracted to one another. After days and days of hot sun, race afternoon was greeted by some showers and although it held up for some time, during the night light rain fell again making trips around the track table hazardous in one corner. Luckily, there were not very many present to slip and fall. In fact, having prepared everything, when 7:00 PM came and went and there was not yet a driver to be seen, I remembered that I had not sent a final text message announcing the event and hastily sent one out. I received a single message response from Laird saying that he couldn't make it. I waited a while then, having heard no more from anyone else, I sent a second message cancelling the event and prepared to start the packing up process. Within seconds Alex responded excusing himself, Luke texted me so confirm that he was on his way, Steve did likewise and Arden phoned to say he was near POS and would be at the track soon. Brent also texed to say that he only has cars for our "fast" classes and wouldn't make it. Bottom line though was that with three drivers plus myself present, racing was on.
Scheduled classes were Historic Saloon, Restricted GT and Slot.It Challenge. We qualified each class just before its three races. I must say FRC looks fairly bare with just four cars running, but at the same time less traffic makes for fewer collisions. Of course Arden would not necessarily agree with this as Luke's cars somehow had an attraction for his and more so as the night went on. Steve did well to beat everyone in the first HS race then place second on the other two, all with his MGB which was actually the slowest qualifier in the class. My lowly third (second-to-last) placing in the first race had me playing catch up with Steve for the final two class races.
The fights in RGT were between Steve and myself and Arden and Luke. My McLaren MP4/12C was difficult to beat, however Luke's Honda NSX did give it a run with driver concentration being the deciding factor in the end. Arden had problems with somehow being in the way of Luke's apparently brake-less Honda on several occasions.
Although he qualified, Luke withdrew his new Nissan R390 GT1 before the first SC race as he felt it needed more sorting and would have been too much of a handful to drive competitively. As a result the last three races of the night saw fields of just three cars. Steve gave his new Toyota 88C its inaugural event by qualifying very close to my similar car. The races were between the two of us as the Audi R8C I had laoned Arden was just not as quick as the Toyotas. Steve won the first race with me second, with the order being reversed in the second race. It would take very focused driving to decide the class championship.
Despite the very small tornout, we had an enjoyable night of racing and after cleaning up and having a final round of drinks over some racing old talk, we closed shop around 11:30 PM.

Next event's classes: Lambo Series - 6 races @ 30 laps, Vintage Sports - 3 races @ 30 laps (270 total laps for all classes).
