A New Circuit

Post by Luke »

Hey Gordon ...

Here’s a track looking almost like the FRC Circuit which was designed by you ... way back in March 2010.

Image

You mentioned it was one (1) of nine (9) ideas (maybe) changing up your original layout. Interestingly enough - you didn’t go with any of the options viewtopic.php?f=7&t=35 and probably for good reason.

All the same - letting you know my good friend (Kenny) recently asked me to help him with a new SSD track and instead of bothering you with your track designing skills in these sudden (Covid-19) pandemic times - I remembered this design :-D

Long story short ... I helped Kenny decided on the one above which is very close to your FRC track.

Wondering if you would mind a next Scalextric Circuit looking almost like yours :?:

It would be like a brother or sister layout to FRC ;-)

Your second (to you) posting member,

Of course I would not mind Luke. I'm glad that the design will be put to use. It's nice to know that Kenny will make it a reality.

Gordon ... that’s great to know also and you should have heard how thrilled Kenny was when I sent him the link to your SSD FRC (optional) designed layouts. So much so, he himself wondered if you’ll be AOK putting to use one of the designs. He was even offering 3 months of Royalties and I quote ~ to just say what you need :)

Any way - when I mentioned you’re AOK that a design will be put to use ... He was all smiles but sorry he didn’t meet you as yet in person. Mind you, l have invited Kenny a number of times to FRC (as you know) but the timing wasn’t suitable for him ... however it’s as if he knows you already because of the amount of read FRC racing reports.

I will end off here for now and will post some (WhatsApp) details how the New Circuit project is progressing 8-)

Have a GR8 Day,

Luke

Hello Gordon,

Would you remember if the 5 pieces of Quarter Straights (I counted) in the circuit design above ... are the Scalextric C8200 Sport 87mm Quarter Straight tracks :?:

It is the only thing (this far) I need to make sure before ordering.

Thanking you in advance,

Luke

That I can't remember, but looking at the track, two look smaller than the other three, so that's what I would order.

You’re correct about the 2 smaller (short track) pieces Gordon, which I’m now noticing.
  • 3 pks Scalextric C8200 Sport 87mm Quarter Straights x 2
    1 pk. Scalextric C8236 Sport 78mm Short Straights x 2
Fyi not much Sport track (pieces) required to complete the layout ... but above will be the best way ordering tracks to make sure all is correct.

Either way, it will have some extra pieces that will be useful later on ...

Simply put ... it’s some proactive decision making 8-)

On a lighter note concerning the circuit design front straightaway & pit lane areas ...

It was decided to go without the lane-change straight, just after the start/finish line plus instead of the (enter/exit) double pit-lane feature - it will be changed to a single lane TRL theme.
  • 2 Scalextric C7036 Digital Lane Change Straights
1 Scalextric C7015 Digital Pit Lane - Right Hand
Which means ...

Will not have to purchase the extra items listed ~ minimizing the ordering / shipping cost ;-)

Mind you - they are track features that can be easily included later on :-D

 TRL aka Track Running Length ...

Please feel free to make suggestions.

Thanks Steve and I must mention after observing this SSD circuit (more & more) designed by Gordon …

Every space was well planned out for slot-car racing ..!

For example - how a lane change is possible (for some realistic racing action) just before the pit lane exit, it’s very easy to fit one of the next two lane change straights - right after the third (3rd.) exciting & constant R3 cornering.

It is an area I just can’t stop admiring and believe a lane-change coming out such a huge corner, will make for some excellent racing maneuvers :-D

On a separate note - because this design is an almost mirrored image of the well know FRC circuit ...

My good friend Kenny will now have to come up with a cool & suitable name for his fully Scalextric Sport Digital Racing Circuit 8-)
