BTCC car weights

Post by gordon »

Guys,

Here's the qualifying history of the top four cars in BTCC to date. I'm comparing the "short" cars (BMW and Civic) to the "long" cars (MG6 and VW Passat). I've added the only two long cars that raced at the most recent event since none placed in the top four.

Minimum weight for all cars - 80gm
3/10/19 - 1. Luke B Passat 5.943
3/10/19 - 2. Gordon MG6 6.066
3/10/19 - 3. O'Brie Civic 6.248
3/10/19 - 4. Ramesh Civic 6.394

Minimum weight short cars - 80gm, long cars - 90gm
21/11/19 - 1. Ramesh Civic 6.127
21/11/18 - 2. Steve BMW 6.195
21/11/19 - 3. Gordon MG6 6.299
21/11/19 - 4. Luke B Passat 6.312

Minimum weight short cars - 80gm, long cars - 85gm
5/3/20 - 1. Luke B Civic 5.496
5/3/20 - 2. Ramesh Civic 5.766
5/3/20 - 3. Steve BMW 5.790
5/3/20 - 4. Gordon Civic 5.820
...
5/3/20 - 7. Warren MG6 6.278
5/3/20 - 8. Luke T Passat 6.399

As appears above, the short cars have not only caught up with, but have surpassed the performance of the long cars. I would like to propose that we go back to the same weight of 80gm for ALL cars and see how things go at the next event.

With the original rules, to achieve the 80gm, the long cars were permitted to run ultra-light interiors. I would imagine this will once again apply if we equalize the weights.

So when you say ultra light interiors that means I can drill holes in the mg6 interior?

No. Please see the (just updated) rules regarding the interior and minimum weight: viewtopic.php?p=7685#p7685
