Re: Possible new 2020 Class Rules based on Ramesh's suggestions

Guys, this topic has clearly stirred up things, with many airing their views on the proposed changes and this is not a bad thing. I like receiving as much feedback as possible to assist in us finding the must suitable options if we are going to make any changes at all. I am NOT planning to implement anything without first trying it out and I'm NOT making any sweeping changes across the board. As such, I'm setting our next event as the date that we'll test out just the BTCC class with its proposed new rules.

Here they are with the proposed changes shown in blue. These are just two items (1) no downforce checking (USD rule) and (2) a 1.0mm ground clearance under the magnet location:
  • BTCC
For the following Scalextric slot models of BTCC cars (from 2014 onwards):

    MG6 GT AMD BTCC
    Honda Civic Type R BTCC
    BMW 125i BTCC
    VW Passat BTCC

In the interest of having individual liveries, prospective entrants must register the model and livery they are interested in with FRC. These registrations will be posted on the FRC forum. Registrations will be on a first-come, first-served basis. Once a car has been registered, no one else may register that model and livery and the registrant must produce the car within six weeks of registering. If the registrant fails to produce the car within this time, it will be removed from the registry and available for registration again. The original registrant may not re-register that model and livery for another six weeks.

See car reservations and reserve your car here:
    viewtopic.php?f=6&t=1525

    Period: 2014 onwards.
    Body: Original.
Chassis: Original, but edges may be sanded for float (max gap 1.0mm).
Interior: Original. May be modified as long as alterations are not visible through the windows. Interior tray bearing retainers may be removed.
Digital Chip: Scalextric C8515 DPR chip and hatch.
Motor: Any FC-130 motor up to 18,000 RPM.
Gearing: Standard axle gear. Pinion may be changed.
Magnets: Magnet(s) must be in standard location. Stacking allowed. (No USD rule).
Ground Clearance: 1.0 mm minimum under magnet.
    Wheels: Standard.
    Axles: Standard.
Tyres: Front: Free, but no less than 18mm on wheel. Rear: Free, but no less than 19mm on wheel; max tread width: 10mm (excluding sidewall).
Minimum Weight: BMW and Honda: 80gm. MG and VW: 85gm.
We are planning the next event for Thursday 5th March where we'll be running our new Group C classes, BTCC, Slot.It Challenge and Modified Production.

Hi guys on the topic of groups ,i would like us to consider racing Rally as part of group C instead of MP. Thanks for consideration.I know Anthony has been working on his three cars for this class and Luke B will also like to join us for this class also.

I would like to propose that for the BTCC minimum weight you do not have any leeway . it must be that weight or more.it must be the cars minimum weight .

Last night I checked the ground clearance on 28 of my cars that I currently drive. Soon after starting, I realized that I'd need four categories to properly define the results. Here they are:
  • Too much ground clearance; car needs lowering - 14 cars
  • Passed easily; gauge moves around with no resistance - 6 cars
  • Just barely passed; has definite resistance (with insulation tape in place) - 5 cars
  • Doesn't pass; no way the gauge is getting into that space - 3 cars
Has anyone else done this? I'd love to hear your results.

Gordon,
I did this some time ago on a few of my cars and from what I can recall. most of them, even the high magnet ones, had at least 1.0 mm ground clearance.

This should be for any class with a minimum weight. If your car is underweight, just add a little ballast.

We'll check the BTCC cars this way at the next event - no leeway.

Since the class groupings have gone back to four classes per night (three groups), our next event will be for:
  • Kitbash
  • Rally
  • BTCC
  • Slot.It Challenge
