Minimum weight leeway comparisons

Post by gordon »

Guys, I've adjusted the minimum weight leeway down from 3gm to 1gm. I initially thought 3gm to be an acceptable weight variation, but O'Brie recently pointed out to me that it was too much, considering the minimum weigh requirements of our cars for classes that have a minimum. I decided to prepare the following chart to see how various leeways compared to the equivalent percentage of a 2000 lb car and here are the results:

78 lbs! Imagine if a real racing car was 78 lbs under the minimum weight requirement and that was still considered legal! Even the 1gm leeway is 26 lbs under in that example.

In any case, we'll allow the 1gm. We don't want to exclude a car for that small variation, however I'd advise that everyone sets up their cars no lower than the actual minimum for the class. Again, this only applies to classes which have a minimum weight requirement. These are currently BTCC (80gm and 85gm, depending on car model), VSGT (90gm) and VSP (70gm).
