RACE REPORT #274 - July 18th 2019 (MP, RGT, RLMP)
An electricity outage just after I was finished setting up the track almost put paid to our fast-classes event, featuring Modified Production, Restricted GT and Restricted LMP cars. The five drivers present, which included Steve and myself from north and Ramesh, Arden and Luke B from south, sat around chatting and hoping for power to be restored, which it luckily was within about twenty minutes of the south team's arrival. We quickly got down to business, opening the racing with our second official Scratch Built competition, where a new lap record was set by Luke B, driving a Ramesh-prepared Porsche 911 Carrera. It was interesting to see virtually no de-slots during the race, despite a lot of sliding, as would be expected of no-magnet cars like these.
There was plenty of action in the three fast classes, particularly in Restricted GT which had a number of crashes through cars making contact with one-another and a second new lap record being set by Luke B. Despite there being one driver station empty, it was a night of the usual fun and concentration as drivers focused on getting their cars to go as fast as possible in the five-car traffic.
The results
Scratch Built starting grid - Luke B's Porsche 911 Carrera on pole, followed by Steve's Escort, Ramesh's Porsche 911S and my Triumph TR4A:
My TR4A lies on its roll bar after getting it all wrong on the infield 90º left-hander:
Modified Production starting grid - Luke B's Peugeot 208, Ramesh's Opel Calibra, Arden piloting Ramesh's Alfa Romeo 155, my Zakspeed Capri and Steve's BMW 320i:
Three Mod-Prod cars go through the esses and up the hill:
Arden's Alfa at FRC's highest level, with my Capri and Luke B's Peugeot climbing the hill in pursuit:
Steve's BMW lies upside down in the bushes after a collision with Luke B's Peugeot which stops sideways across the track:
Restricted GT starting grid - Ramesh's Honda HSV on pole, followed by Luke B's similar car, my Porsche 911R, Steve's Ford GTE, and Ramesh's TVR driven by Arden:
Steve's Ford leads Arden's TVR and Ramesh's Honda up the hill, while Luke B's Honda goes round the hairpin in the background:
Ramesh's Honda goes by Arden's off-track TVR, followed by Luke's Honda and my 911R negotiating the Caiman Pond hairpin. You can see a couple of the reptiles slithering at the edge of the pond in the background:
Steve's Ford lies upside down as my Porsche goes partially off the track surface:
Ramesh's Honda speeds past Luke B's crashed similar car at Fosters:
Its Luke B's turn to turn turtle as Steve's Ford and my slipstreaming Porsche get hard on the brakes:
Restricted LMP starting grid - Luke B's Mazda on pole, followed by my Toyoya, Ramesh's Mazda and Steve's Peugeot:

Congratulations to the winners.

Great night as usual at FRC.
The power outage (organized by O'Brie ?) early on meant that the event wasn't sure to take place as there was darkness even until after the south boys arrived. We all go to FRC to drive, and more specifically, to race slotcars but with the power gone, the ole talk was entertaining. Thankfully though, the power outage didn't last too long and all present enjoyed the night's racing. It was a clean sweep by Team Bhola and congrats go to Ramesh on winning Restricted GT and taking Index Of Performance honours. Congrats to Luke B. on winning everything else.
Looking forward to the next event.
Steve

Well done people on the racing despite on the earlier power outage, as usual the pictures and the reports of the races speaks of the stiff competition at the Fairways Racing Complex.Hoping to come up one of these good evenings to participate in the fun.
