RACE REPORT #272 - June 6th 2019 (HS, APC, VS6075)
Although just five drivers were present, our historic night of racing was filled with action and a lot of interesting cars. We began the racing with a 15-lap Scratch Built race where some of us learned the hard way that de-slotting is a bad thing. Nonetheless, the race which saw two brand new cars, was a lot of fun. We ended up running four other 50-lap races, one each for Historic Saloon, American Pony Car, Vintage Sports '60-'75 GT and Vintage Sports '60-'75 Prototype, each of which provided a lot of hard driving and plenty of action.
Results
Scratch Built starting grid. We rolled the dice to determine the grid. My Triumph TR4A is in position one, followed by Ramesh's new Porsche 911 Carrera, O'Brie's new BMC Mini Cooper and Steve's Escort Mk I:
O'Brie's Mini crashes in the esses going up the hill:
Both Ramesh's Porsche and Steve's Escort go off as my TR4A goes by on the inside:
My Triumph lies upside down in the middle of the Carousel exit, with Ramesh's Porsche sitting on the wall and Steve's Escort's path blocked by the accident:
Historic Saloon starting grid - Capri, Capri and more Capris. Ramesh is on pole, followed by me, Arden, Steve and O'Brie:
One of the Team Bhola Capris rests on the armco barrier on the second-to-last turn:
American Pony Car saw Steve's surprisingly quick Mustang Notchback on pole, followed by my Dodge Challenger, Arden's Team Bhola Camaro, Ramesh with the second Team Bhola Camaro and O'Brie's Camaro:
The two Camaros of Arden and Ramesh negotiate the hairpin as my Challenger approaches and in the distance under the Dunlop bridge, O'Brie's Camaro lies on its roof:
Another view of O'Brie's upside-down Camaro below the Dunlop bridge:
More action as Ramesh's Camaro leads Arden's similar car and my Challenger on the exit of the hairpin. Steve's race-winning Mustang is in the background:
Despite there being three Chevys in the race, they lost the manufacturer points to Ford and Dodge:
Vintage Sports '60-'75 GT grid, with Ramesh's De Tomaso Pantera on pole, Steve's Porsche 914/6, O'Brie's Ferrari 250 GTO, my Cobra Daytona and Team Bhola's second De Tomaso Panters driven by Arden:
O'Brie loses control of the GTO under the Dunlop bridge and my Cobra Daytona collides with him:
Vintage Sports '60-'75 Prototype saw Ramesh take pole with his McLaren M8D, followed by Steve's Alfa 33/3, my Ferrari 330 P4 at its debut event, O'Brie's Ford MkIV and Arden driving Ramesh's Alfa 33/3:
Ramesh's McLaren follows Arden's Alfa through the Carousel as O'Brie's Ford sits on its roof in the background:

Re: Race report #272 - Thursday Jun 6th 2019 (HS, APC, VS6075)
Great night as usual of racing at FRC.
I always enjoy seeing new, or at least new to FRC cars show up for racing. This event had three (Scratch-build Mini and Porsche 911 from O'Brie and Ramesh respectively and VS prototype Ferrari P4 from Gordon) ! The racing was exciting and close in all classes. Too bad O'Brie was a bit under the weather for the last race.
Congrats to Ram on winning Historic Saloon , both Vintage Sport sub classes and taking the night's overall honours. Congrats are also in order for Ford in taking the Pony Car Manufacturers title.
Looking forward to the next event.
Steve

I was in a bit of a hurry to complete this race report, as I was late at the office after 5pm at the time, so I didn't go into much detail. As usual, Ram took the lion's share of the winnings, however I'd like to recognize Steve's efforts at the event, where all his cars ran very well. He won the Scratch Built race, placed second in Historic Saloon, qualified on pole in American Pony Car with the fastest time so far for 2019 and went on to win the race, qualified second in both Vintage Sports sub-classes and then placed second in both of the races as well. We've gotten accustomed to the amazing performances that Ram consistently has at FRC, so we sort of take them for granted. For Steve, it was a pretty outstanding event in my view. Well done Steve!

As I mentioned at the race meeting, We need to look at the calendar closely for the next race meeting. The 19 and 20 June are holidays I am taking 21 off. On a personal note, Sean my eldest is coming to Trini this Thursday and returns to UK on the 28 June. G has family commitments that Saturday so I am not sure if that is a problem for him as well??? Any suggestions??
