Who drove any cars like these?

Post by gordon »

Which of you actually raced cars like these when they were released by Scalextric back in the early '60s? I know two FRC drivers who have. (I'm referring to the D-Type Jaguars, not the F1 cars in the pits.)

Anyone also remembers those plastic hay bales?

I drove a D-Type but not when it was released. Many years after getting involved in the hobby, Keith and I managed to acquire a number of old Scalextric cars, including the D-Type and a Vanwall Grand Prix car. I think the cars came either from Steve Castagne or O'Brie's father in law, Alan Scott-Fleming.

Actually, these were introduced in 1961, and O'Brie had inherited them from his big brothers when I used to race them with him back around 1965, so I actually didn't drive them in 1961.

WOW - the 60s !!!

I was still drinking (milk) from ah bottle :D

The only thing I could add, was how I obtained the Scalextric (vintage) Hay Bales, Oil Drums and safety Cones (not pictured) trackside accessories back in 2001 from Scale Modles UK :)

Not sure where these attachments are today though - since the 2012 Diego Martín floods :(
