RACE REPORT #267 - Mar 14th 2019 (RC, SC, F1)

Six drivers took part in our 267th event, all of which drove the Rally stages, with five also competing in our Slot.It Challenge and F1 classes. As planned, we started tech inspection at 8:20 PM followed by the rally stages where it came down to competition in three time brackets of 7, 8 and 9 sec lap times. At the front, Luke B and I fought for the top spot, in the middle, the battle was between Ramesh, Steve and a slightly slower O'Brie, with Anthony driving an unfamiliar loaner car following. At the end of the three 5-lap stages, just 1.065 sec separated the two top positions.

We decided to run two 75-lap races each for Slot.It Challenge and F1. We knew both classes would be very competitive, with just 0.114 sec and 0.144 sec separating the top three qualifiers in SC and F1, respectively and just a 0.6 sec spread between all five cars in both classes. As usual, the inside lane was king and it took some risky moves to get past groups of cars running this faster lane, but drivers managed it, despite a few drive-through penalties having to be applied. Still, there were relatively few de-slots and the racing was very exciting, requiring a lot of driver concentration.

Even though we had some action-filled racing on track, we were also able to take breaks between races for a little socialising, a drink and some snacks, making the event a really enjoyable one.

The collection of FRC names in Gordon, Luke B., O’Brie, Ramesh & Steve (plus Arden if present) at this SSD event, are definitely the Cream of the Crop 8-)

Great night of racing as usual at FRC.
In addition to the current regulars, it was great to see Luke B. again present and also to see Anthony show up just as we were about to start the Rally stages. Disappointingly he didn't have his Honda Civic which he had at the previous Rally event and which I thought had great potential.
Gordon did an amazing job with his Alpine, now fitted with a new, green chassis , doing 12 sub-8 second laps out of 15 laps run in the Rally class. He was ALMOST the measure of Luke B. with his Impreza but who, however, managed to pull off an even more amazing 13 sub-8 second laps. I was quite happy with the pace of my Impreza, doing a best lap time of 7.848 seconds (fastest second lap !) and running 5 laps of sub-8 seconds. Than count needs to be improved however if I want to challenge the big guns.
The Slot.it Challenge and Formula 1 classes were great fun and I particularly enjoyed the two-race per class format. I had a great time dicing with O'Brie in these classes.
Congrats to Luke B. on his victories in Rally and Slot.it Challenge as well as taking the night's overall victory. Congrats also to Gordon on his F1 victory and on taking the Index Of Performance honours.
Looking forward to the next event.
