First event for 2019

Guys, I'm thinking that we can start the year off with a special event rather than jumping right into our regular race series. Here's what I'm thinking:

A single race for each of the following classes:

• Either our scratch-built fun class based on 2018 regs OR something I'll refer to as Basic Historic Saloon (see below for rules) - 10 min
• American Pony Car based on 2019 regs - 20 min
• Formula 1 - 25 min

Basic Historic Saloon

• Body: '60s-'70s production saloon and sports cars only
• Interior: As per HS rules
• Motor: 18K maximum
• Magnets: USD rule as per HS rules
• Track Width (tyre contact surface edge to edge): 45mm maximum

Standard cars that I know of that comply with track width requirement:

- Scalextric BMC Mini
- Scalextric Cortina
- Scalextric MGB
- Revell-Monogram Cortina

I'm sure there are others and you can include any kitbash or scratch built cars that meet the requirements.

This event will also allow for testing at least our APC cars with the 2019 regs to see how they go.

Of course, this is just a suggestion for starting the new year off a little differently. I'm sure some of you have your own ideas, so please let's have them in the comments below.

Why not use the Frc stock cars and do an event where all can participate. Mix the cars up. Try to get as much of the older guys for the first event and the new guys. Have one race for the regular crew. A 100 lap race. And two other races for everyone in cluding ourselves.

Hi Gordon,
Based on your suggested classes, I'd be prepared to race my MGB in the Historic Saloon class if I could get a new motor for it. One thought I have for this race though, would be to have a combination race of sorts, with, for example, three HS cars set us as described, with 45 mm.'tread' and the rest 2018 spec. Scratch-build cars. I feel that the lap times of these two set-ups would be similar.
Re Arden's suggestion , I think that running FRC-owned cars for a race , or maybe even more than one race, is a great idea IF doing so would help in getting greater driver participation. If it would not, then I prefer the idea of self-prepped cars.

I agree with this Steve. Here are my thoughts regarding greater/new driver participation:

Over the years, particularly the more recent years, we have tried several things to encourage better participation, including, but not limited to, the points mentioned in the following posts:

• Encouragement of new racers - January 2018
• Thoughts on simplifying our class rules - March 2018
• New Sportsman classes - April 2018
• Scratch Built class for tinkerers coming soon - August 2018

I don't pretend to know all the various reasons keeping people away, but I've reached the stage where I think there's very little we can do proactively to get better regular participation. If anyone else has a brilliant idea or series of ideas to solve this, please let's hear them. In the mean time, I feel that we should focus on what we as regulars want to see with our racing and if we get some enthusiastic new (or old) regulars, well that's just a bonus.

Ram, the first two classes you suggested here are going to be the first two classes for our official class grouping that we will be running for 2019, so I feel that we may as well just start the year with our Group A classes.

Hi guys i would like to suggest we consider doing endurance type racing for all classes this year as to save time on race night for more fellowship, as i realized many of us were on tight time constraints we can still have close racing in all classes but do it a little differently, i would like races to start at 8.30pm and finish by 10.30 pm ole talk and be out by 11pm. Thanks
