Two items for scrutineering

Post by gordon »

Guys,

Here are two quick items I'd like everyone to check with your cars before packing them to bring to FRC (for applicable classes):
  1. Ensure that your cars comply where the class requires that magnets be no further back than the midway point between the guide flag pivot point and the rear axle. Feel free to place magnets as far forward of this point as you choose, but ensure that no part of any magnets are behind it. I would suggest that you carefully measure your cars, then use a permanent marker or some other clear means to draw or scribe a line at this point under the chassis. This will help when checking cars. Remember, the location is the midway point between the guide flag pivot point and the rear axle (see diagram below). Cars with magnets further back than this are not legal.

  2. For classes that require a minimum ground clearance under the magnets, please check that your cars have this clearance. As you know, this is checked by holding the car to the tech block so that the two can not be separated, then sliding the ground clearance gauge between the two in areas where there are magnets. If the gauge does not fit, the clearance must be increased for the car to be legal.

Here's an example of what I would like to see on your cars to identify the most-rearward magnet position (this is my HS Escort):

This one is scribed, however you can use a pen marker instead. I scribed it because ink can sometimes be mistakenly wiped off when cleaning the car with something like electrical cleaner or alcohol.
