Can anyone guess what track this is modelled after?
What track is this?
Re: What track is this?
ITS WALLERFIELD, i did a Wallerfield layout many years ago, lots of fun but the inside lane was too small.
Re: What track is this?
Well Ram, I knew you would recognise it for sure. In our early slot car days (pre driver's license) we used to set up a Wallerfield track in my parents car port. Here's a picture of one side of the car port back then:
You can see my mum's Anglia which I taught myself to drive in (staring right from where it's parked). My brother and I had a bedroom right next to the car port behind that wrought-iron-covered window.
Here's a picture of the other side (that's me holding my first nephew, Christian Hospedales):
By the time this second picture was taken, I had already started racing real cars, but around age 15 I took my first tentative steps at driving by doing laps around that circular driveway. The first time I tried changing a gear I looked down while turning right and ended up driving into my dad's precious plants, receiving a toungle-lashing when he found out that I had broken one of his rose plant clay ant protectors.
Coming back to the slot car track, our Wallerfield version extended from outside the car port in the the first picture, through the car port and then out the other end. It was quite long. It was modelled after the then Wallerfield 2-mile circuit which ran the full length of the original runway from near the Cumuto Road right up to the current Top Corner (turn 1). Here's a satellite picture:
The current circuit area is on the right. The original circuit went all the way to the left of the pic.

Hello Gordon and Ramesh,
I truly believe if there was a SSD design of this circuit (with extra lanes in and out corners) plus where the pit lane would actually be - would make this a fabulous and entertaining slotcar racing track for all you Wallerfield racing drivers - through the years

Re: What track is this?
Me again fellas,
My first time at Wallerfield (remembering I was 11 years old) I will never forget how I saw the Moodie brothers (Peter mostly) literally blaze up that circuit (I think) in a black looking 2 door Escort
By chance - do you Gordon and Ramesh remember being there that day
Luke

Re: What track is this?
Gordon,
I came across another Scalextric Track Desigin ... and found there was some strange resemblance to the Wallerfield Circuit

Re: What track is this?
WOW Luke! This is a great find! The track itself is similar, but the video could be Wallerfield back in the early '70s. It looks very much like what racing here looked like back then.
