Are Daytona Prototype cars legal for RLMP?

Post by gordon »

Our RLMP rules state "Must be modeled after car which competes in LMP racing". This appears to exclude Daytona Prototype cars. Can we run them in RLMP?

Hi all,
in my opinion, Daytona Prototype cars and LMP cars are quite different beasts. While there are races of 24 hours duration for both series, the cars are quite different. In 1:1 racing, the Daytona Prototype cars are of a tube frame design as opposed to LMP cars composite designs. The cars are also smaller than LMP. Daytona Prototype cars also run engines which are production based which is not the case with LMP cars. The smaller 1:1 size, when translated to the scale world, would mean the Daytona Prototype cars could have a weight advantage. I think the LMP class (now RLMP) should be restricted to those cars which actually compete or have competed in LMP racing. This should include both LMP1 and LMP2 (if there are any) cars.
