Racing this Saturday (3rd December)

Post by gordon »

Hi Guys,

FRC will be open for practice, testing and racing from 3:00 PM this Saturday (3rd December) for our final event for 2016, our "Run What Yuh Brung" Formula Libre Handicap races.

Just bring along whatever cars you have and there's guaranteed to be a race where they can run competitively, because all races will be based on car lap times regardless of body type or FRC class (no open-wheel cars allowed though). Bring some quick cars, some not-so-quick ones and some slow ones to ensure that you can run in as many races as possible. But forget about sub-5 sec cars - they won't be allowed either.

We're going to qualify all comers individually over three laps then grid the races six cars at a time starting from the fastest six, then the next-fastest six, etc. To make things even more interesting and for closer racing, the races will be handicapped with the slowest car in each race starting first and the fastest last, separated by their aggregate time differences over the number of race laps. The races will be a bit longer than our regular sprint races and should be about ten minutes duration on average.

We would like to avoid doing any cooking, however we do want to make it not just a racing event but also a social one, so during this week please offer any suggestions about a meal and other refreshments in the comments below.

Reality Checks

No reality checks this time around, but here's a pic of the finalists from the only other time FRC has hosted a similar event (but without the handicapping):

So let's make this a really special afternoon/evening of racing fun and liming fun at FRC, the last time for 2016.

See you on the circuit...

Here are some cool things (researched info) starting from L to R ~ I could mention (about pic above) with some of those cars in the spotlight ...

Firstly, the 3 front cars is a group C (third) race to be done ... All lined up R to L for grid positions, plus owner/car and qualifying 5 second lap times.
  • 2. Nicholas E / Ferrari 360 no.24 - QT 5.765 sec. / 3rd. place result
    3. Shane / Nissan R390 GT1 no.32 - QT 5.806 sec. / 5th. place result
    4. Luke (yours truly) / Porsche 962 no.17 - QT 5.820 sec. / 4th. place result
Next row is a group D (forth) race to be done ...
  • 1. David (boo) - Lambo / QT 6.001 sec. / 1st. place result
    2. Shane - BMW Z4 / QT 6.011 sec. / 3rd. place result
    3. Douglas - Porsche 911 / 6.043 sec / 4th. place result
    4. Marc G - Prosche 997 / 6.346 sec. / 6th. place result
    5. Gordon - Jaguar XKRS / 6.377 sec. / 5th. place result
Also, a very interesting thing I remembered with Douglas's Porsche 911 car .... He went as far as Gasparillo (Bhola's Motorworks to be exact) the day before ... to buy that very slotcar ..!

Is it possible Ramesh could remember that 132 sale :?: :)

I had a friendly chat with Arden (over the phone) today and it's been awhile as well ...

We got the chance to talk about a number of things and mention how busy he is with is building renovations among other duties.

Sorry to say though - he told me he won't be able to make it to FRC this Saturday but rest assured his thoughts is ...

Maybe next event (in person) for sure Arden.

Expecting both Keith and Peter for at least part ( if not the entire) of the proceedings.

... and could I add Gordon, with 1 (one) more day to go.

Although how you didn't post your - will you race this day/votes - with this upcoming event. Thought it might have been good to take this (about to happen) racing to the polls.

Suppose you had your reasons not posting and we will just see how it unfolds ...

However - I have a strong feeling there will be a good turnout of drivers and predicting there will be 50+ cars to qualify ..!

Seeing I'm organizing almost 2.5 of them :-)
