Guys,

Way back in 2010 we celebrated my birthday with a special event very similar to what Steve has proposed, a Formula Libre time bracket event. Have a read of the race report to see how this went:

Race Report #53 - Thursday 17th June, 2010

Interestingly, I just realised that the race report number is the same as the year I was born, (19)53.

On reading the race report mentioned above, I was reminded of how we solved the sandbagging problem. We treated qualifying as a points-scoring race so that everyone got regular race points for their relative qualifying positions. Those who sandbagged therefore received fewer points than if they drove to show their car's true potential.

I think that the same can be applied for this event.

It's all well and good Gordon with (RD224) FRC's Special end of year Event and (listed below) it didn't require considerable effort (on the forum) coming up with a (no.5) Handicap Racing Event.
  • 1. A scheduled FRC event (Keeping it Simple) with MC IROC and RC classes.
    2. A first event at Rocky's Revenge Circuit featuring anyone of FRC's 4 IROC classes.
    3. A Time/Laps race with 9 of FRC non-IROC classes - Repeat of RR86 event.
    4. A Grand Showdown with the 6 sets of FRC IROC classes.
    5. A FRC (RD224) Handicap Racing Event - Similar to RR53 event.
Although - I am noticing (on my part) it will take some doing, getting started with a selection of cars to race at this event ...

Just thought I should share my early morning thoughts because it gets "blackout" going forward with any ideas for this sporting event.

If we're doing the handicap races, here are two things to keep in mind:
  1. We need someone with a stopwatch (phone) who is not racing dedicated to releasing the cars.
  2. Any time that there's a track call before all the cars are released, this official timer must stop the count till the race gets going again.
Let's make sure that we have a good turnout to ensure that we have a dedicated timer and marshals for each race.

I believe there will be a good turnout and I once worked at a company named UNICO T'dad Ltd. for 8 years (85 to 93) and within a few years working there, was (aka) nicknamed - Dedicated

Maybe because of my recent reply with this topic and my known (8 years) devotion to FRC - I am the man for the job :D

Luke, you're definitely racing at this event. Everyone needs to remember, once you have some running cars with you, you're guaranteed to race. Guaranteed because everything is based on lap times. All cars will be raced in groups within similar times of each other, even if those times are in the "slower" brackets. This is the beauty with this type of racing. On top of that, cars will also be handicapped based on their time differences over the race laps.

Regarding the official timer, this can be anyone who isn't in that particular race.

Its going to be GREAT!

I'd like to also suggest that any car which is under 5 sec in qualifying be excluded. In fact, we can even make this figure 5.5 sec or 6 sec or whatever makes sense. I have a LOT of different cars which I'd love to drive that are not particularly fast and I'm sure I'm not the only one.

The biggest time slot will be the actual qualifying. It will be an event in itself, with cars getting points for their qualifying positions just like in a race. Should be a lot of fun.

Hi guys the Handicap will be lots of fun , question would we like to see 4 different classes of cars for each handicap race eg RACE 1 GT HANDICAP RACE . 2 MOD PROD HANDICAPP. RACE3 VS HANDICAP. RACE 4 HISTORIC HANDICAP. and keeping to regs for each class.

Hi Ram,
I think that keeping to the regs. for each class would limit the pool of eligible entries as there are cars which guys may want to race which don't fit into any of FRC's existing categories. My feeling is that any spec. closed-type car should be allowed. The determining factor of what cars will be in a particular race would be ONLY lap time.
