Scalextric releases Dave Brodie's "Run Baby Run" Escort!

Post by gordon »

Guys,

Scalextric has released a real classic, the original "Run Baby Run" Escort built and raced by the UK's Dave Brodie. This car was a big winner in saloon racing in the UK during the late '60s to early '70s and made a name for Dave. Frankie Boodram even copied the name to use on his racing Escort that I drove against many times.

Here are some pics of the real car:

Frankie's "Run Baby Run" at Wallerfield:

Dave has even raced here at Wallerfield, but not with "Run Baby Run". He drove this Capri:

That trip, we took him for a day down the islands on Gary Huggins' family boat and he enjoyed his KFC while there:

Enjoy this short video about Dave and the car:

I read about that car's release on Slot Forum. Nice car. Also nice photos of real car and of Frankie's version. If I remember correctly, Frankie's car raced at Wallerfield as a Group 2 car (unlightened) while the original Run Baby Run appears to be lightened (at least as far as the Perspex window 'glass' goes). I'm surprised that Dave had a Coke and not a Carib in his hand Down The Islands !

Also, this Ford Escort is the most recent 132 slot-car (plus others) I observed, that has something in common with livery name's of FRC slot-car drivers :)

Here's a list with brand name and model number of these cars:
  • 1. Ninco 57506 Mosler MT900R No.25 - Gordon (plus 55075/80 Renault Megane No.7)
    2. Scalextric C2738 Dodge Viper No.17 - Luke T.
    3. Scalextric C3216 Mini Cooper S No.20 - Arden
    4. Scalextric C3742 Mini Cooper F56 No.16 - Luke B. (plus C3743 Mini Cooper S No.77)
    5. Scalextric C3748 Ford Escort MK1 No.59 - Alex
Sorry if I didn't notice anybody else's name and if there are others, please feel free letting it be known 8-)

Hi Luke,
I don't understand the association between the slot cars listed and the names mentioned. Can you explain a bit more ?

Hello Steve if you look to the front of the black Ford Escort - it has the design (name) Alex to the left and right bottom corners ... You should understand now, the association between the slot cars listed and the names mentioned.

If you wish, search the other item numbers at Electric Dreams ... and again you will see what is done there.

Hope I explained well enough and if you look good enough, you may find your name on a slot-car too :D

OK Luke, now I understand. Great to hear that you'll be getting this Scalextric escort. Hopefully we'll see it in competition (Historic Saloon) at FRC soon. Being a DPR car would be a great plus.

Steve,

I am getting this classic Escort for one of the guys from central and sorry to say - dont know if it will be competing at FRC ... What I do know is (when it arrives in Trinidad) I will make sure it gets a pic on the forum and a guest appearance at one of FRC racing events.

By chance Steve, I wonder if you (or anybody else) would know what sort of silicone tyres are used on the original rims/hubs :?:

Also, if this model car does make an appearance at FRC ... It will (as far as I know) be the only one of the slot-cars/names (list above: Gordon. Luke T., Arden, Luke B. and Alex) that made it so far.
