Special event suggestion

Post by gordon »

Hi Guys,

We currently have twelve active drivers with legal, running Slot.It Challenge cars. Why don't we do a special event which will include all these drivers (and any more who wish to compete) with the following requirements?

Slot.It Challenge USD Event
  1. Cars must comply with current Slot.It Challenge rules with the addition that the USD rule will be in effect.
  2. Format will be like our IROC classes in that there can be any number of entries. Fastest six qualifiers will start the first race. If there are more than six entries, for each subsequent race the next-placed qualifier will step in at position 1 and other drivers will move down one position, with the driver in position 6 stepping out. This will be repeated until each entry has driven six races, one in each driving position. The total number of races will be the same as the total number of drivers.
  3. Each race will be 25 laps in length (about 2.5 min @ 6 sec per lap). Because car IDs will have to be set after each race, drivers will get a short rest between races.
Of course we'll be using the just updated USD rule.

Let's hear your thoughts.

I like the idea Gordon, particularly as there are some recent FRC drivers (Damien, Rocky and Edward) who have new Slot.it Challenge cars which I'm sure they would be eager to race.

Guys,

This is now a definite upcoming event. All we have to do is decide on a day and date. It would be ideal to have it on a Saturday afternoon and we can also make it a social gathering by cooking something on the BBQ. I'd like to suggest Saturday 18th June (my birthday is the 17th). This means that we should have two events before, Group A on Thursday 19th May and Group B on Thursday 2nd June. Because Group B comprises Historic Saloon, Vintage Sports '60-'75 and Slot.It Challenge, I suggest we only run Historic Saloon and Vintage Sports '60-'75 on that night, leaving Slot.It Challenge for this special event two weeks after.

Lets have your thoughts.

Hi all,
I'm in agreement with Gordon's suggestion. If we're going to race the Slot.it Challenge cars as a stand-alone class for this special event, we could leave them out (just this once) from their usual class grouping.

OK, we're almost certainly going to do this event on Saturday 18th June. I plan to have the track ready from 4pm. We also intend to burn some meat, so lets hear what ideas everyone has in this regard.

This event is unique in that it will be run like an IROC event but using your own car at each driver station (no one else will drive your car, just you). The more drivers we have, the better, so pull out those Slot.It Challenge cars that many of you have sitting around and go through the following post to get them running competitively:

Setting up an FRC Slot.It Challenge car

Depending on the entries and lap time differences, we can even split it into subgroups A, B and C.

However its done, it'll be an evening of great racing and socialising. We have three and a half weeks to prep our cars, so let's get going!

Hello Gordon,

I wondered if you know this is FRC's 10th. Special Event ..?

Which is an ideal time hosting one on your Birthday :)

All the same and with things to be done for this type of event ...

Are you considering an Opening Event as well or just the SC race alone :?:

Nothing else Luke. I want everyone focusing on their SC cars (practice, adjustments/tuning and the many races they should be doing).
