I've made a new, more consistently accurate tool for checking cars for the upside-down rule. I've used a single-lane half-straight and screwed it down to a block of wood so that there's no chance of flexing:
As you can see from the following pic, I ground the screws to be flat with the track surface. The blue line will be used to centre cars on the block for consistent measurements:
