After realizing that the outside lane was a bit low on power at our last event, I spent some time today doing some track work. Before trying to solve the power problem, I decided to clean up the underside of the track table, including all the very dirty cables that live there. Using a wet rag and bucket of water, I cleaned the cables and wiped the whole underside, removing dirt, cobwebs and tiny spiders in the process. I then dried everything off and sprayed all exposed electrical contacts including the power collection blocks with electrical contact cleaner. I also neatened up some of the hanging wires. Here's a photo:
I then put my attention to the four power jumper cables attached to various track pieces along the lap and the very first one I checked had a disconnected terminal on the outside lane:
I fixed this and checked the other three which were fine. I then checked the extra power cables which I had soldered to the power base track section to take power to the power collection blocks and, aside from a bit of cleaning of under-track dust and other residue, there was no need for any more work in this area:
I then finished off the work by wiping the whole track surface with a dry cotton cloth to remove dust, cleaned the track rails with isopropyl alcohol, applied a coating of Inox to them and re-painted the start line and pit lane lines (forgot to take a pic, but you'll see the results this Thursday).
Track work at FRC today
Re: Track work at FRC today
Gordon,
Glad to see the track getting some work on! Sorry we were not there to give a helping hand.
Can we race the AM and LMP before the GT on Thursday? I will have to go to the office early on Friday before I leave for the airport.

Re: Track work at FRC today
No problem with that Arden. The sequence will be AM, LMP then GT.
Re: Track work at FRC today
Thanks a lot Gordon for your labor of love for slot car racing, that type of maintenance is always needed, we appreciate your care very much, bye Ram.
Re: Track work at FRC today
Well done Gordon, especially as the classes being raced on Thursday will require every bit of power available.
