Race report #197 - Thursday August 6th 2015 (MP, F1)
Re: Race report #197 - Thursday August 6th 2015 (MP, F1)
Great night of racing as usual at FRC. The regular south contingent was not there but there were other non-regular drivers to fill out the field. It was wonderful to see O'Brie actually racing at FRC. Great also to have Peter and Keith participate in both classes raced.
In Mod.Prod. ,Peter debuted his lovely Zakspeed Escort but actually raced the more thoroughly developed Zakspeed Capri to great effect. I thoroughly enjoyed dicing with him and all the other drivers in the Mod.Prod. class. Keith did a good job driving the very fast Peugeot 406 but the handling proved a bit of a handful at times. The Gonsalves stable was ably represented by Luke in a Mustang and Gordon with his radically revised Mini. My own Mustang performed very well but had a transmission failure in the second race . This was fixed in time for the third race. By the way, the race report has this car as a Mustang notchback but it is in fact a GT350.
F1 was very exciting and I really enjoyed some close racing especially with Gordon in his Brawn and Luke in the other Renault. Both Renaults performed very well but both suffered the now regular Renault F1 problem of nosecones parting company with the car during a race. O'Brie, who did not race in Mod.Prod., made his appearance in this class and seemed to really enjoy his comeback. Let's hope that his presence as a racer at FRC becomes a regular occurrence ! Peter and Keith both did well, especially considering that they were both racing F1 cars for the first time at FRC. Peter's McLaren unfortunately suffered a guide blade problem which sidelined him in the last race.
Thanks to Damien Scott who provided some very welcome marshalling as well as good ole talk after the racing was done.
Looking forward to the next event.

Nice race report summary there Steve. I've corrected the name of your MP car to a Mustang GT350.
