LMP-E and GT-E cars ready to test
Re: LMP-E and GT-E cars ready to test
Just 6 cars to set Luke, not 36.
Re: LMP-E and GT-E cars ready to test
In fact it's 5 cars to set since one will be already correct.
Re: LMP-E and GT-E cars ready to test
Very well done GG,
That was a very fast ruling, that we didn't have to take this case to court or the "US supreme court" for that matter. hehe
Suppose it still sounds A-OK to pull off a Mixed IROC Series with 1 set of cars (6 only) ~ one from each one of these 6 uniform classes.
Must tell you though, there's still no need setting any of these cars IDs and here's why ...
If we choose to roll a dice - that number could be the order the IROC classes (PC, LS, FTC, MC, NSS & SGTC) originated 1 to 6.
So the first (No.1) car from any class, you don't have to use the ones in a horizontal line but with the ones in the oblique line - which are already numbered 1 - 6 and set to the respective controllers.
Hope you noticing what I am pointing out ..?
A real nice thing though with the now 30 cars not in use or raced for that matter - there will be backup cars for each driver having a nice time
Luke

Re: LMP-E and GT-E cars ready to test
G M Gordon,
Being the keen IROC participant you know me to be over all the other tuning classes, it was very disappointing to read ... putting off the Mixed IROC class ... not here (this topic) but (another topic) elsewhere.
After all was written - its like all the writing just went down the drain ..! I was really looking forward to this race, as an opening event but as you said ... "will be done as a subsequent one" ... and at the same time having the same mind, its for a good considering the LMP-E / GT-E conditions.
Mind you, I'm not writing this for you to go change your mind because I had a feeling something wasn't too right in the way you where replying. Especially after you wrote "One thing I've been thinking though is that maybe we should do this one as a separate event or with something shorter than a 1-hour event" and how others wont even chipping in with recommendation ... I might be wrong with this but that's just how I perceive it to be and should have gotten a fix on it earlier but thinking this new Mixed IROC / Mixed IROC Series event (whichever comes first) was a sure & clear way to cheer others on ...
I suppose and leaving room for disappointment - this new & epic thrilling event will do just that (cheer others on) and could be done @ FRC's 200th. milestone race.
Getting unwanted emotions off one's chest,
Luke

Re: LMP-E and GT-E cars ready to test
Luke, I believe that you know I tend to be a very practical person. If you think about it, these two events of completely different personalities (if that can be said of events) are really too big to be held on one evening, especially if its during the week. This all started as the special endurance event where planning began about one year ago and that is my chief focus. After thinking about the addition of your great Mixed IROC idea to the evening's proceedings, I just felt that one would take precedence over the other, and since the main event is the endurance race, the IROC races would suffer.
All the effort you've put into it has definitely not been wasted - the Mixed IROC races should be done as another special event with no other cars or races. I feel it needs that sort of time and attention. As you suggest, the 200th event would be an ideal date to run it and remember it by.

As it happens GG,
When you think about it, with these well ordered events of completely different personalities (if that can be said of events) ... they were coined by persons with remarkable qualities

Re: LMP-E and GT-E cars ready to test
Prep work on my LMP-E and GT-E cars continue. Last Sunday, the focus was on the LMP-E Audi when I spent some 8 hours working on it in between watching the 6-hours race at Watkins Glen. Here's a pic of how I left things:
The anglewinder pod has been put aside and I'm setting-up two inline configurations, one with a boxer motor, the other with an FC-130, both with 25K motors. Started work on the race body with its base silver-grey colour in place.
Lots of work still to be done.

Cars looking good there Gordon. I'm interested to see how that Flat 6 works in the inline configuration. Also interested in seeing the R18's race livery !

Re: LMP-E and GT-E cars ready to test
Seeing a great deal of heart, mind and soul behind every part on this worktable.
A very lively and exciting photo to look at Gordon ..!
The Audi body (base silver-grey) paint job already looks showroom and some livery stickers for that final touch
