Luke, I have also been wondering about getting enough drivers (and cars to some extent) to run thus event. So much so that I've been thinking of an alternative event for three cars of each class (3 LMP-E and 3 GT-E) where each car will be driven by a single driver in a somewhat shorter race, say 20 minutes instead of 1 hour. I'm sure we can pull this off if we can't get enough drivers for the original race concept. A sort of "mini" version of the same thing.

WOW GG,

That's a terrific & totally abstract idea you came up with ... it's called a Plan B. 8-)

I believe its reasoning like this - that makes and show up a great leader ~ in other words D BOSS :!:

Thanks for FRC and was always delighted being part of :D

LMP-E Audi R18 set up for first test (90gm total weight, 191gm downforce, 20,000 RPM Flat-6 motor):

Steve, if tomorrow you can bring along the GT-E car you set up we can get a lap time comparison.

Hey Gordon,

That Audi R18 have to be the coolest and hottest looking LMP car (on the whole) at FRC and the RPM rating still not even at full power .. :!:

You now have me wondering who will be your racing partner or even how to go about being your teammate ...

My line of thinking having/getting enough teams/drivers to launch this event ... even if its the original or scaled-down version.

... and I must let you know the scaled-down version sounding very very interesting.

Here are some prediction/possibilities with LMP/GT-E driver's names for North/South Teams ... (not necessarily in this order or even through qualifying)
  • 1. Gordon/Ramesh
    2. Steve/Luke B
    3. Luke/Arden
    4. Alex/Jon
    5. David (Boo)/Marlon
    6. Gary/Dion

Other Driver's names ... (* not 100% sure ... but listed in alphabet order all the same)
  • 1. Douglas*
    2. Jonathan
    3. Kerwin*
    4. Kyle*
    5. Mark H*
    6. Nathaniel
    7. Nicholas E*
    8. Paul*
    9. O’Brie*
    10. Tony
So with these probabilities - pulling off this special event with North and South drivers alike - it's guaranteed to happen .. :!:

Hi Gordon,
I'll bring along the GT-E car tomorrow. Will be interesting to see the times set.
Luke, I like your description of Gordon's Audi R18: it is the coolest and hottest at the same time !

Based on initial tests done with my LMP-E Audi R18 and Steve's GT-E Audi R8 GT, I'm changing the downforce back to the original 275gm for the former class and 200gm for the latter.

Hey GG,

Based on the initial testing done and the info @ hand with these 3 cars in this order:
  • 1. Luke's .............. GT-E Chev C6R/18K rpm ................. 120gm downforce ....... Rubber tyres - BLT 7.9 sec.
    2. Steve's ............ GT-E Audi R8 GT/ N/A .......................... N/A ..................... Silicone tyres ....... N/A
    3. Gordon's .......... LMP-E Audi R18/20K rpm ................. 191gm downforce ....... Silicone tyres ....... N/A
... plus the (trial) suggested downforce readings with LMP-E & GT-E cars.
  • LMP-E ...... 300gm - 275gm - 200gm and back to 275gm downforce
    GT-E ........ 250gm - 200gm - 150gm and back to 200gm downforce
Wouldn't it be interestingly nice to share some more info ~ like what sort of lap times done ~ just like how you started (and far apart from Steve's GT-E car) with your LMP-E Audi R18 car .. :?:

Luke, Steve had his GT-E car set up for the then former 200gm downforce regulation for GT-E. My LMP-E car was set up with the then current 200gm downforce regulation for LMP-E. I can't remember the exact times as I only did a couple of laps because of lack of time as well as the fact that the car was terrible to drive, but they were in the 7 sec bracket.

The 90gm minimum car weight requirement makes a significant difference to the performance and lap times. You can't compare them to G5SC cars which weigh significantly less (close to 30gm). This is why, based on these tests, I want to revert to the 275gm and 200gm limits for the respective classes.

GG & Steve,

The overall results are clearly showing me what to suggest for a simple solution ... setting up all cars.
  • 1. Luke's ............ GT-E Chev C6R/18K rpm ............... 120gm downforce ....... Rubber tyres - BLT 7.9 sec.
    2. Steve's .......... GT-E Audi R8 GT/21.5K rpm ........... 180gm downforce ....... Silicone tyres - BLT 7.1 sec.
    3. Gordon's ........ LMP-E Audi R18/20K rpm .............. 191gm downforce ....... Silicone tyres - BLT 7.0 sec.

It will simply amount to - cars d/force readings of 275 & 200gms versus cars must not be able to magnetically adhere to a standard track piece upside down.

Here are a few of my regs "tweaking" adjustments to come up with a steering (21.5 and 25K rpm) racing event instead of a lengthy testing one ...
  • Minimum Ground Clearance: N/A
Magnets - GT-E/LMP-E: Can be modified in positions for the particular model but the car must not be able to magnetically adhere to a standard track piece upside down.
    Car Minimum Weight: N/A
I believe in this way, it will help ease up on the slot car builders, lots of scrutineering plus more than produce the desired lap times and the 1 sec minimum difference between the two classes on race day.

BTW - Those 3 lap times (7.9, 7.1 & 7.0 sec.) with the very different car set-up readings, sure looks strange and at the same time, pushing another point ...

 How come no input from the other Super Slot Car Builders for this Special Event :?:
