New race event procedures

Post by gordon »

Guys,

In the interest of ensuring fairness to all and to reign in what I like to call "regulation creep" - as well as to give me an ease on race nights - FRC will be implementing the following new event procedures with immediate effect.

Event Steward

An Event Steward will be selected at each event and will be responsible for the following.
  1. Organising and running qualifying. This includes calling drivers in sequence, recording lap times off the Power Base and filling out the first race starting grid on the race result forms.
  2. Setting the car IDs for each class.
  3. Ensuring that the cars are correctly placed on the starting grid for each race.
  4. Recording race results on the race result forms.
  5. Recording any driver or car changes for each race.

Technical Inspection
  1. Technical inspection will be done at each event before qualifying. Two Technical Inspectors will be selected by the track owner at each event and will be responsible for judging every car entered based on the regulations for the class entered. A printed copy of the class regulations will be used as a checklist for checking the cars on each point. Only items marked as "Free" will be bypassed. Reserve/spare cars must also pass inspection before being allowed to race.
  2. Cars that pass inspection will be immediately placed in Parc Ferme and may only be moved out of Parc Ferme to the grid for a race. After completion of a race, all cars must be immediately returned to Parc Ferme. The driver of a car that needs repairs must get the permission of both technical inspectors for it to be removed from Parc Ferme and it must be re-inspected before being allowed to race.
  3. Drivers may clean the tyres of their cars and adjust braids before the start of a race. This must be done at the driver stations. No other work may be carried out including application of liquids (except for tyre cleaning) or lubrication.
  4. A second technical inspection of winning cars may be made after the class races at the discretion of the track owner and tech inspectors.

FRC Ground Clearance Check Procedure
  1. Place tech plate on a flat surface and hold it in place.
  2. Flatten car's braid so that it does not affect ground clearance and place car on tech plate.
  3. Slide 1mm plastic gauge under car in areas where magnets are located.
  4. If gauge cannot pass under car or car moves upwards or sideways, confirm that there are no magnets where contact between gauge and car occurs. If contact occurs below any magnet, car is illegal.

Magnet Marshal Check

Cars must first pass ground clearance check. Cars may exceed Magnet Marshal limit by no more than 107% of class stipulation. For example, in G5SC, class stipulates 200gm maximum, therefore up to 214gm will be considered legal. 215gm and over is illegal.

GG,

Hope you (or anyone else) don't "feel ah how" with me thinking this - That this course of action was long overdue ...

In all fairness - I agree it will help lessen on the FRC racing procedures you have been seeing about for 188 events ... and yet you still try your best to compete with the BIG GUNNERS.

Today Wednesday 8th. April 2015 is exactly 6 years (well done) with the first official racing event - Wednesday 8th. April 2009.

That being said, I don't think anyone should have any issues with this plan and it couldn't have happen at a better time, even with your new Site Admin "Red Dodge Viper" image ;) :D

Although - concerning these new procedures with racing entrants (drivers) at events ...
  • • One Event Steward .......................... will be selected at each event and will be responsible for the following ...
    • Two Technical Inspectors .................. will be selected by the track owner at each event.
... I believe you will only have a limited selection (not taking away from others) of persons to choose from in Steve, Ramesh, Luke B., Arden and myself (depending on if we all show of course) for the experience we carry @ FRC.

So all in all - FRC racing procedures should continue going as normal with this workforce you have in us.

I totally agree with the new measures as they will lessen the burden on Gordon on race nights significantly. I also believe that the new Parc Ferme and tech. inspection measures are worthwhile and fair.

Guys,

To simplify testing for minimum ground clearance in classes where this applies, I've modified the method to use the following steps:
  1. Flatten car's braid so that it does not affect ground clearance and place car on tech plate.
  2. Holding the car in place, flip the car and tech place upside down then release the tech plate.
  3. Slide 1mm plastic gauge between car and tech place in areas where magnets are located.
  4. If gauge cannot pass under car or tech plate moves upwards or sideways, car is illegal.
This method makes it easier to place the 1mm gauge where magnets are located. Here's a pic:
