"Upside-down" RGT racing this week.

Post by gordon »

With the introduction of the 2015 regulation requirement that cars in the Modified Production and Restricted GT classes must not stick to a Scalextric Sport track when held upside-down, everyone has had to go back to the drawing board with car set-up. The first test came some weeks ago when we raced our Mod Prod cars and not very surprisingly, Team Bhola topped the results (though not in qualifying), having got their cars better set-up for racing than the rest of the field. Qualifying showed that the cars were about 1.5 sec slower per lap, achieving the main objective of better differentiating them from the more highly modified cars.

Our upcoming event for Restricted GT will be interesting, as it will show what lessons have been learned and whether the other competitors will fare better against the Bholas. I'm sure that everyone has been working feverishly to get their cars up to spec and as competitive as possible. Will there be a new winner in our second "upside-down" class? Don't miss this week's racing at FRC - it may well be something of a revelation!

I will be keeping in touch with ...

David (boo), Alex, Kerwin, Paul and maybe Dougie if he's in Trinidad.

So in all, that's 6 persons including myself (God Willing) of course ;)

The only 2 FRC classes with motors (maximum) 23.5K rpm ...... Restricted GT & Modified Production

Plus the only 2 classes with the new US-D rule for the fastest lap times in ........ 2015

Modified Production
  • 4.849 - 2014 Results @ 30K rpm
    6.555 - 2015 Results @ 23.5K rpm
Restricted GT
  • 4.777 - 2014 Results @ 23.5K rpm
    6.888 - 2015 Results @ 23.5K rpm

The RGT 2015 time is my likely estimated time with less down-force ...

What do you'll think?

GG,

Those guesstimates (5.8 & 6.8 sec.) compared to the actual Mod Prod outcome of 6.555 seconds @ 23.5K rpm ...

The RGT outcome could be very well be closer to or the same 6.555 seconds @ 23.5K rpm.

After all, they both (MP & RGT) carry more or less the same car set-up ... with same rpms ;)
