My suggestions for 2015 class changes

Guys,

Here are my latest suggestions for 2015 class changes and my reasons for them. I'm only thinking about changes to three classes.

F1:

• Any manufacturer, but must come standard with - and race with - 18K FF motor
• No other changes

I believe this will even-out the field with minimum impact for car owners/drivers

RGT:

• Up to 25K motor
• No other changes

This class should be quicker than MP and therefore should have a higher RPM motor.

MP:

• Single magnet location ahead of centre of wheelbase with stacking allowed
• Up to 23K motor
• Any chip
• No other changes

I feel that this class needs slowing down and simplifying. Moving the magnet forward and reducing motor RPM should achieve the first objective and removing the chip/motor rule should achieve the second.

One last point. What do you think of having a minimum weight for certain classes? (Nothing to do with downforce). This is easy for anyone to do when preparing their cars using an inexpensive scale. You can simply add lead weight to make your cars come up to spec. Classes I'm thinking of are RGT, MP and maybe RC. My reason for this suggestion is to allow heavier cars to be potentially more competitive against ultra-light cars.

Let me hear your thoughts.

Hi Gordon,
I'm right there with you on the Modified Production class. These proposed change will reduce both straight line and cornering speeds, both desirable objectives.
As far as the Restricted GT class, I agree that they should be faster than the MP cars and the proposed 25k motors should achieve this. My suggestion for this class however, would be to allow 30k motors. The reason for this is that some of us (myself included) have 30k motors already, fitted in MP cars and allowing these to be used in RGT could mean not having to purchase new motors to re-power the RGT cars. I figure that with a 30k motor, there would still be a substantial performance gap to the GT cars for which there are no restrictions. We could even go a step further for this class and reduce allowable magnet thickness to 2.0 mm instead of the current 2.5 mm. This could actually even result in a 25k-motored RGT car being more driveable than a 30k-motored one for those so inclined.
Concerning the minimum weight proposal, I would be happy to go along for the classes you suggested. The only issue would be what weights to be established as the minimum.

At the same time back to a positive note, sure we can come up with an ideal minimum weight putting our slotcar (heads) knowledge together for RGT, MP & RC cars

A-Okay GG and believe/suggest 2 things again ...

• 1. F1 - the maximum thickness with the Bar & Barrel/Button magnets could be left up to the owner of the F1 car.
  
  2. MP - the magnet setting should be placed to the middle of the chassis with SW motors and the chassis with IL motors ahead of the motor.

All because (thinking) these set-ups will be user-friendly and free from any one car having a superior racing edge.

As we are on the topic - Class Regulations and the next scheduled event RGT ...

I have always thought about racing a Ninco (brand) car in the RGT class but because of the barrel (standard/stock) magnet type chassis - it couldn't be used/raced ... because it wouldn't be that competitive.

Seeing how the RGT regs is now written:

• Restricted GT (RGT)
  
  ◦ Body: Must be modeled after a two-door car which competes in GT racing and must comply with General item 2. Windows may be tinted so as not to reveal the cockpit - see Eligable Cars below.
  
  ◦ Chassis: Standard for the particular model.
  ◦ Minimum Ground Clearance: 1.0 mm / 0.040".
  ◦ Interior: Free but must comply with General item 3.
  ◦ Digital Chip: Free.
  ◦ Motor: 23,000 RPM or lower, based on manufacturer's specifications.
  ◦ Gearing: Free.
  ◦ Motor Pod (where applicable): Standard for the particular model.
  ◦ Magnets: Up to 2.5mm thick and must be positioned in one of the standard magnet locations for the particular model.
  ◦ Wheels: Free.
  ◦ Axles: Free.
  ◦ Tyres: Free.
  ◦ Guide Flag: Free.

And how Scalextric cars (for the way they are now) set-up with there stock bar magnet being through and through the chassis but covered with tape ~ guessing the Ninco brand cars could be used/raced ... in this way

Sorry I am a little under the weather to make it to racing. Hope you all have a gr8 night.

I am in agreement with all the changes. They are simple and easy to work with. They should achieve the speed and times you are looking to get too. I am also agreeing to the weight restriction, but I will recommend we see how the changes work out before making those additional changes.

Steve I believe Gordon is correct with the 25k in RGT. It will be a lot faster than MP especially with the magnet (centerline) configuration.

This was well thought of and really makes it easy for anyone to work with.
Great job!
Looking forward to getting back on the circuit. Don't think I will be at a disadvantage guys. I am going to Scalextric Driving school so watch out!

In refining my thoughts for 2015 class regulation changes and after some driver feedback, these are my latest proposals:

Historic Saloon

• Chassis: Standard for the particular model. Cars with angle-winder chassis or angle-winder pods are prohibited.
• Motor: Standard for the particular model. Standard motor as fitted by the car manufacturer must not exceed 20,000 RPM, based on manufacturer's specifications.

F1

• For Scalextric and Carrera F1 cars that come standard with 18K FF motor.
• Motor: Standard silver-can 18,000 RPM FF motors must be used.

Restricted GT

• Motor: 25,000 RPM or lower, based on manufacturer's specifications.
• Magnets: Must be positioned in one of the standard magnet locations for the particular model. Car must not be able to magnetically adhere to standard Scalextric track piece in an upside down position.

Modified Production

• Digital Chip: Free.
• Motor: 23,000 RPM or lower, based on manufacturer's specifications.
• Magnets: Single magnet location ahead of centre of wheelbase with stacking allowed.

We need to set a date when we can meet to discuss these and any other ideas/suggestions that anyone may have so that we know how to prepare our cars for next year. Perhaps it can be sorted out at one of our regular race events.
