Race report #179 - Thurs 6th November 2014 (AM, GT, LMP)

RACE REPORT #179 - November 6th 2014 (AM, GT, LMP)

Five drivers turned up to run our fastest races for American Muscle (AM), GT and LMP on a wet Thursday night. Once again our roll-down tarpaulin/awning saved the day (night) and the races went on without interruption from the inclement weather. With three classes to run, we decided on settling for three races per class instead of the usual five.

Luke B did his usual and out-qualified everyone in his Ramesh-prepared cars, however I saw a slight glimmer of hope for my LMP chances when I was able to do a time of 4.2-something just before the start of qualifying. This incidentally is the fastest any of my cars have ever gone at FRC. I wasn't able to repeat the time in qualifying, but I managed a 4.334 sec lap before de-slotting, putting my Lola-Aston on the outside of the front row.

The AM races were hotly contested, the first two places changing for each one. In GT, Luke T's Lambo Gallardo proved to be almost as quick as the Bhola Porsches, pulling off a win and two seconds. Just two points separated the top two drivers in the end. LMP was a breath of fresh air for me as my Lola-Aston lived up to its pre-race promise, challenging Luke B's Cadillac Northstar and eventually going past to give me my first two wins in these classes in a very long time. Had I not got a drive-through penalty in race one, I may have had three first places.

Next event's classes: Group A: Scalextric GT Challenge IROC - 6 races @ 20 laps, Restricted GT - 5 races @ 30 laps. As usual, don't forget to see the updated fastest times for the FRC classes to know what the benchmarks are for your cars, the updated class average qualifying times and the updated 2014 Class Points Standings.

See you on the circuit...

Hi Gordon,
I noticed two errors in the race report. These are as follows:
*In GT I remember qualifying 2nd, not 5th. This is borne out by grid position in first race.
*In last AM race, points were awarded only to 4 drivers, despite 5 starting the race. Luke got -1 point here.
It was great fun as usual, despite the small driver turnout. To me, the testing and driving of the various Vintage Sports cars after the event was almost as enjoyable as the actual racing !
Congrats to Ramesh and Luke B. on winning AM and GT respectively and to Gorden and Luke B. on jointly winning the LMP class. Congrats also to Luke B. on the overall victory.
Looking forward to the next event.

Nice finish to the last racing cycle in 2014 with group F...

Although, in the race report it seems the computer software is getting mixed up with Luke B. & Luke in the AM races :)

At the same time - I cant remember in what race it happened but see how the new 2014 drive-through "Big Men" clause working real good with Steve's drive-through call on Luke B's car ~ in that the two drivers involved wasn't demoted to the two final race positions in that race ...

GG,

I thought you won the LMP class outright ..?

Well, strange as this list/tally of names may look for the current winners of FRC's 15 classes ...

  • • Mixed GT IROC ................................................................. Luke B.
    • Scalextric GT Challenge IROC (alternating) ........................... Luke
    • Restricted GT .................................................................... Luke B.

    • Historic Saloon .................................................................. Steve
    • Vintage Sports .................................................................. Luke B.
    • Group 5 Sports Cars .......................................................... Luke B.

    • Mini Challenge IROC ........................................................... Luke B.
    • Rally Car ........................................................................... Luke B.

    • Modified Production ............................................................ Ramesh
    • F1 .................................................................................... Ramesh

    • Nissan GT-R Super Series IROC ........................................... Luke B.
    • Slot.It Challenge ................................................................ Ramesh

    • American Muscle ................................................................. Luke B.
    • GT .................................................................................... Ramesh
    • LMP ................................................................................... Luke B./Gordon

Have to say, that's just how it is with persons having 8.5 - 4 - 1 - 1 & .5 classes to their names.

Nice stats there Luke. Regarding the error in results, it's not a software glitch. It's some data entry errors on my part. Sorry about that but there are a lot of bits that have to be transferred from our race night forms to the database and I sometimes make the odd errors. Thankfully you guys spot them and point them out. Will fix them on the computer and update the race report tomorrow.

I originally thought I was the sole winner in LMP but Luke's pole point as well as my poor finish in race 1 because of my drive through penalty put us at exactly the same number of points, making it a tie.

Great racing last Thursday guys, I must congratulate Gordon, Steve & Luke B. I did see quite a lot of competitive racing in all the categories and I was especially happy to see Steve's GT car and his AM running quite well. Luke T's lambo really kicked up a storm.

But the highlight of the night was a very impressive performance by Gordon's LMP car. This is very encouraging for me. As I saw some good improvements by you guys keep up the good work. As this cycle will not come around until Feb next year.

Always a lot of fun for me and I cant wait for next time.

Bye,
Ramesh.
