RACE REPORT #176 - September 11th 2014 (HS, VS, G5SC)
I love the racing cars of the '60s and '70s so I always look forward to racing our Historic Saloon (HS), Vintage Sports (VS) and Group 5 Sports Cars (G5SC). This event was extra special for me because for the first time we raced all three of these classes at one event. Adding to this, we had a nice turnout of ten drivers and were able to run A and B sub-groups in both HS and VS. With three races per class, we ran a total of fifteen 20-lap races. It was also a bit of a surprise to have Jon back at FRC, home on holiday from his training in Scotland.
In HS qualifying, Steve produced an eye-opener with a new nicely constructed, scratch-built 1968 Nissan Skyline, taking pole in the class. Luke B surprised no one by doing the same in both VS and G5SC, setting a new lap record of 5.545 in the latter.
The HS(A) race wins were shared by Steve and myself. Luke B was taken by surprise at there being only three races per class, as he hoped he would improve his results in the usual remaining two races. In HS(B), each race had a different winner, however the biggest upset was Gary winning the class in only his second ever FRC/digital event.
Luke B did his usual dominating driving to win all three VS(A) races, myself and Marlon being his nearest competitors. In VS(B) it was a case of "like son, like father" with Ramesh taking all the wins, Boo and Luke sharing the runner-up position.
We ran just one G5SC group which was again dominated by Luke B, Ramesh and I being his closest challengers. It turned out to be a very enjoyable night for all competitors, although things ran a bit later than anticipated, poor young Jonathan almost sleeping on his feet by the end.
The results
Congratulations to the winners.
2014 Overall Class Points Update
Next event's classes: Group C: Mini Challenge IROC - 6 races @ 20 laps, Rally Car - 3 five-lap stages per car, 1 car at a time (90 laps for 6 cars). As usual, don't forget to see the updated fastest times for the FRC classes to know what the benchmarks are for your cars, the updated class average qualifying times and the updated 2014 Class Points Standings.
See you on the circuit...
Gordon

I'm not trying to give you any sort of extra work here GG but think/noticed the boxed info (listed) was left out the race report by mistake ...
All the same, full marks for making the changes (in blue) with the General Comp. Regs/Penalties - Lines 1 & 4.
Remember, these procedures was in place already but it was understood as verbally - now its in the regs for all to see and apply.
BTW - Sure you noticed how Steve & Ramesh applied the Big Men Clause rule

Great night of racing as usual at FRC. Nice to see the good turnout of drivers, including 'Boo' and Jon. Great to see a 'novice' (Gary) doing so well, winning in HS (B). Congrats Gary. Gary also seems to be getting a real handle on driving his lovely Slot.it GT40 ! Congrats also to Luke B. and Ramesh on winning VS (A) and VS (B) respectively, and to Luke B. on winning Group 5 Sports Car. Congrats also to Luke B. on setting new G5S lap record.
Thanks as usual to Gordon for hosting and publishing race report.

Thank you Steve...I do enjoy the "group" and the racing. Thank you Gordon for the evening and especially the loan of the competent Capri.

Gary, that MGB definitely looks like a killer! Thanks for posting. Now you need a 1/32 replica for our HS class

A very eventful evening , starting from getting those Gs5 cars down force ready, this class saw some new cars coming out , the evening was being set for some keen competition with Steve leading in the class and Gordon, Luke B and myself at the chase, the results would tell the tale , for me it was the most enjoyable class of the night. Steve and i had some close racing more than usual , the Adrenalin rush was nice .Steve really impressed me with his scratch built Nissan IN Historic, WHAT A WORK OF ENGINEERING, you should ask us to sit down so we could take in the reveal, i can see that scratch building cars may be the way to go , i know how i would be spending my Christmas , that was the nicest modify car racing in a stock class, oh sorry i might have gotten stock and modify mixed up , SMILE GUYS . I would like to congratulate Gary on his patience and commitment to keeping his focus ,it paid off in the end , i can see by your driving you will do well ,be encouraged . Thanks for coming and racing with us . We saw a little bit of the killer b in action .The south team always appreciates the hospitality of Gordon and racing with Steve, Luke T and Boo . Its always fun filled with Luke t and small Jon playing crash a lot at the intersections . My only regret was not having fellowship time at the end and having to rush off but next time . bye Ramesh

Thank you Ramesh for the encouragement...advice and especially the welcome. It means a lot to land in a new land (country) and to be welcomed in and made to feel at home. But I have to say, that is what I have always found in the "Car Crazy" world of people and 'racers' especially !!!
