RACE REPORT #173 - August 7th 2014 (G5SC, F1)
Once again just six drivers competed in our 173rd event, this one for Group 5 Sports Cars (G5SC) and Formula 1 (F1) classes. We're definitely being affected by the summer holidays.
Luke B took pole in both classes, setting a new G5SC lap record in the process. For the first time in quite a while we saw FF-motored F1 cars being driven by all but one driver, Ramesh. We ran the F1 races first and from the onset there was chaos with race stoppages for multi-car crashes, the track being blocked on several occasions. This aside, the racing was close and competitive, especially between the cars of Ramesh, Luke B and myself. After the five races were over it was clear who the overall winner would be.
The G5SC races were just as competitive but without the crashes and race stoppages we saw in F1. The competition for first spot was fought out between Steve's and Luke B's Alfa 33/3 cars. Despite running similar machines, Ramesh and I were not quite up there with them because of their consistent pace. I had a braid wire break in the second race which demoted me to last place, but could not compete for top honours even without this happening. Luke's Ferrari had its best outing yet having improved the downforce and rear wheels and tyres but it was still just off the pace, causing him several de-slots in his efforts to push it to the limit.
The results
Congratulations to the winners.
2014 Overall Class Points Update

See you on the circuit...

Re: Race report #173 - Thursday 7th August, 2014 (G5SC, F1)
GG - I noticed 'off the bat' the new style with the subject title ... shortened name of classes (in brackets) to the end
Nicely done and it looks like its going to be a regular thing because you did the same with last report. Its a tidy way, looking back @ report numbers and knowing (right away) what classes was done.
BTW - Just for the record, my F1 (chassis) Williams BMW also had a FC130 (18K rpm) motor
Although my F1 car was off the pace by 1+ seconds with 7.014 in qualifying - I'm sure I could have gotten a 6.900 if Steve didnt come stand up right behind me and saying, "Luke your car running good boy."
Such a sickening move (of his) because its not the first time ... Next time I will just wait till he moves or use my elbow before qualifying okay, if that's fine with you

Guys,
It was good to back on the circuit, enjoyed it alot. I guess some things didn't change and some things changed since I was last there.
Gordon dId the rules change with regards to drive thru? I noticed a drive thru was not taken, and the result remained the same.
Glad to be back.

Great night of racing, despite the small turnout (again), with the added excitement of some real livestock on the track, in addition to the regular plastic inhabitants. Ramesh's daughter, while generously agreeing to do some track marshalling, had a lovely bird perched on her shoulder. The bird, apparently not finding that it was close enough to the action, flew down into the middle of the track for a better view. Of course this caused an immediate red flag situation and the bird was carted off to a safer vantage point, thankfully without any injuries.
Congrats to Luke B. on setting that new Group 5 lap record and to Ramesh for the F1 and overall win.
Thanks as usual to Gordon for hosting and publishing the race report .
Looking forward to the next event.

Two things Steve, you may well know now - the girl with the bird isnt Ramesh's daughter (she is the daughter's friend) and believe you me, how could you forget out Arden is back ...
I could mention it now - Great to see you're back Arden, hope to see you at next event but dont forget to get your VISA stamped for a longer period of time @ FRC
Here's my take on your drive thru post:
We would all like to be winners and (maybe) thinking a win is a win and like a mad man on the loose may very well look for it whichever which way ... Although, one must try and remember having common ground with others is important for all enjoying their races.
That being said, the rule on (DTP) drive through penalties - I strongly believe, couldn't get anymore straight forward than it already is (when read and understood of course) but it seems, some (just had to say) are bent on finding or adding some sort of grey area .... especially in heated races. When you think of it, it could have many (if a number is needed - 50) shades of grey ... So wouldn't you agree, is only so much GG could do. Sure you noticed when I made it clear, I'm calling DTs on all with my (off the pace) F1 car and see how each person applied the rule for not getting any DTPs. You did drive thru my F1 car once but it happened so fast, that I didnt find I should call it and look how we still had a mutual understanding about it when I told you what happened - you even wanted to go and take a DTP.
You may wonder where I am going with this but it stands to reason & writing it again, is only so much Gordon can do. Sounding like I have all the answers ent but a simple rule of thumb - live and let live. I have had many up and down racing moments with you and others and as Gordon once wrote (me here) cant remember where though but remembered anyway - Enjoy your racing and let others too. Something to that effect - see now where I am going with this ..?
Having Common Ground for your Fellow Racer.
I'm thinking now, that Gordon and Ramesh are the only 2 persons (can safely say) I never had any fussing with during heated races. Suppose they aren't Mad Men
Sorry about such a long reply but just had to
