Guys,
Here's a suggestion to help introduce a bit more variety into the cars we see on the grid in our races. What about one extra point given for every different car type (based on the real 1/1 scale make and model of the car's body) raced in a class at each event? This does not include a car driven in the first race for the class. For example, if a driver races a Ford Escort and an MGB in the Historic Saloon class, an extra point will be awarded to him for the second car (the MGB). If he also races a Mini. he gets another point for that.
This will encourage us to drive different cars which we may not normally use and therefore get both more variety in our races and the use of cars otherwise not raced. Of course changing to a different car will still put the driver to the back of the grid for the start of the first race the car runs in.
Let me know your thoughts.

Extra point for different car type
Re: Extra point for different car type
Here's an example using Steve's results in Historic Saloon at our last event:
The first row shows his actual results, the second what they would have been had he used four different cars and had the same finishing results. In the latter, he'd have tied Luke B for the class win just by virtue of having used different cars.

Re: Extra point for different car type
I love this idea Gordon. I think that it will encourage the variation in cars driven and enhance the events. I would imagine that if two drivers change car for a race, then the one going to the back of the grid would be the lower placed of the two from the previous race. The higher placed one would move to second-to-last spot (and so on).

Correct Steve.

Gordon,
Bet yuh - South Boys think we trying to get any extra racing point there is to get now
A nice but abstract idea and dont think I would like someone beating me or I even beating somebody (not that I'm doing that much lately) with extra racing points ... in this way @ FRC's competitions .
Remember when Steve wrote "that if we're trying for our races to have some resemblance to the real thing" well, is this something done in the real world of racing ..? Maybe not but there is an extra point to get for a pole and think this is just enough attrition for our 1/32 racing.
An idea, to help introduce a bit more variety into the (HS & VS classes) cars we see on the grid should be rewarded in some other way ...
How about just letting it be know by a Race Report (eg: Champ/Points, IoP or even FLTs) at the end of the year ..?
This info shouldn't be to hard to get with your computer data base of Reports ~ A list of persons to have the title for the most cars used at these events.

Re: Extra point for different car type
Based on Luke's valid point, I guess we shouldn't proceed with this idea. Perhaps we can do this as a special option from time to time in the future. Remember that we actually had a similar thing for event #141 on 12th September 2013, except there were no extra points, however each driver had to drive two different car types.
