Race report #162 - Thursday 10th April, 2014

RACE REPORT #162 - April 10th 2014

A sizeable turnout of fifteen drivers and guests turned up to FRC's second round of Mini Challenge IROC (MC) races and Rally (RC) stage competition. Of these there were ten MC, nine RC and five who took part in a special race for our Lambo Series IROC cars, dubbed Lambo Series - Novice (LSN) as three of the five were FRC and digital first-timers.

With ten qualifiers in MC, we split the class into A and B sub-groups of five drivers each. Luke T reminded us that he's one of our quickest drivers by getting the fastest time of all, with Jon being fastest in the B-group. We ran the B races first and the main fight was between Alex, Arden and Jon, each of which were race winners. After much on-track dicing, the final points total ended with a tie for first place. In group A, Steve looked like he was on his way to winning everything when he took the first three races. However, the final three wins were shared by Luke B and I, leaving the overall class championship win less clear than it first appeared.

The rally stages were nail-biting close. Each of the three stages were won by a different driver and the time differential over them was very close at the front. The biggest surprise came when Arden put down a record-breaking time 44.519 sec in the final stage, beating second-placed Luke B by 1.5 sec. He also set the fastest rally lap ever recorded under the new regulations, 8.678 sec.

Next event's classes: We're supposed to be having our second tune and test session as the next event, however we've decided to skip this or any racing this week, so the following Wednesday (not the usual Thursday) we'll be running class grouping E: Historic Saloon - 5 races @ 30 laps, Vintage Sports - 5 races @ 30 laps. As usual, don't forget to see the updated fastest times for the FRC classes to know what the benchmarks are for your cars, the updated class average qualifying times and the updated 2014 Class Points Standings.

See you on the circuit...

Great night of racing as usual. It was nice to see such a good turnout, actually having to run groups A and B in the Mini Challenge class. The Minis proved to be as challenging as ever but provided good fun. The rally class was also great fun and very close. This class has really come a long way since inception. Congrats to Arden on setting those blistering times ! Congrats also to Luke B. on winning the rally class and taking the overall win for the night.
Looking forward to the next event.
Happy Easter everyone !

Hello All,

Two points...

Firstly, a very significant & special long weekend ahead of us ~ which makes it clearly a good call not to race this week but early next week... I see GG is going to host the class E. groupings instead of class D. (Tuning Night) and I don't see it as problem. However, I would like to suggest to use Tuning Night towards the end of this cycle of events... In order to have a closer day, set-aside for all testing/setting-up of cars for FRC next Special Endurance Event.

Secondly, a true meaning with these words - He that is last shall be first - which was done in MC (group A.) class. A job well done be Steve, even though he was in group A. by the skin of one's teeth. Guess thats why he congratulated me with such a "big handshake" for setting a pole time. The MC A&B racing was very intense and RC class (as Steve said) has really come a long way. Who would have believed (back then) sub 9 seconds could have been achieved - some great work & driving done by Arden. I for one, really had a rough & tough night of racing as all can see with IP results :(

The good thing here though, I am now last... get it :)

A Happy Easter everyone.

Gordon,

Glad to see so many drivers doing their best times in rally on the same night. It goes to show the work put in on the rally cars aren't going to waste. Good work guys.

One more thought is the time we actually wrap up. We moved to two classes per night to finish earlier at nights. This is not working. We need to take a look at what is making us wrap up the same as three classes.

Good point Arden. I believe this is happening because the actual qualifying/racing is starting later than it should. My suggestion is that we have a practice/testing cut-off time on race nights when we go directly to qualifying then racing. For example, we can set 8:30 PM as the time qualifying begins, regardless of who is or is not ready.

How does this sound?

I agree with the 8.30pm.

Let hear from the rest of the group.

Do you think you should set a poll? You know why.

Congrats to all drivers , mc and rally has come along as a nice pair,a bit too long, nice adj , by shortening up races . I do agree with being more punctual , having the 8.30 qualifying is agreed upon ,i would really like all racing to be done by 10.30 pm thanks Ramesh

No need for a vote Arden. It's my track at my home, so this one I can dictate :)
