Special Christmas holiday event date poll

Post by gordon »

Guys,

Looking at the calendar with respect to where Christmas Day, Boxing Day, New Year's Eve and New Year's Day fall this year and taking into consideration the weekend in between probably being busy with family and other functions/commitments, the only two days that I see as feasible for our special Christmas event are Monday 30th December and Thursday 2nd January. So please take the poll above and lets get this date set. We will want to start early, around 5:00PM, so keep this in mind. The poll is open up to Friday 27th and you may change your vote as many times as you like.

Also, we've basically decided on making this an event for just our IROC classes - the BMW Minis, Porsche 997s, Ferrari F430s and Lambo Gallardos, so its not necessary to bring along any cars. Please leave comments/suggestions below about the TYPE of races we can run using these cars. Examples include just regular races, forced-retirement ("devil-take-the-hindmost") races, kids races, team races with two drivers per car, etc. Ideally, we'll want to decide this in advance of the day of the event.

Gordon,

How about a mixed class endurance style race, with 2 or 3 of the different classes running at the same time. Lambos and Porsches for instance, 3 on 3. The speed differential should make for some interesting driving. And to mix it up, you could tally each driver/team's laps after say, 10 min, then they switch to the other class of car for 10 min and total laps are tallied. If using teams, you can stipulate that each driver have 5 minutes on each car...
(I've been wanting to see video of a big Scorpius or Oxigen race run with multiple classes!)
Best,
Ray

Hi all,
although I voted for Monday 30th (it would be my preference), the other day would be okay for me as well.
I was thinking along the lines of a team event with 6 teams of 2 drivers each (if there are more or less than 12 drivers, the teams could be adjusted accordingly) with 4 races of say 10 or 15 minutes each. Each race would be for 1 of the IROC classes and each team's 2 drivers would have to start 2 of the races. Teams would be free to change drivers during each race if desired.

Hi guys thursday is already clear for Luke and I , my suggestion for races is teams of two drivers selected by the roll of a dice, if more than six drivers have a class and b class, so you allow the faster guys to race each other and the new guys to get better and gain driving experience .

Here's one suggestion for a different kind of race - a wet-weather race. We will run a class that would normally have magnets on the cars, but for this race, all magnets will be removed both for qualifying and for the race itself. The effect will be not unlike driving in very slippery ("wet") conditions.

We can decide which IROC class we'll use for this race.

Hi Gordon,
I love the idea of the 'wet weather' race. I think if we're running the IROC cars for this, the cars should be either the Porsches, Ferraris or Lambos. I feel that the Minis with their higher centre of gravity and shorter wheelbase may be a bit much to handle.
I'm just wondering if your inspiration for this was that GT40 in the wet at Goodwood !

Steve, the inspiration WAS the GT40 in the wet :)

I was figuring the Ferraris would be best as they have relatively low power and a weight in the front magnet position.

Gordon, Steve
I think a "wet weather" race would be really cool.
By the way, I voted for the 30th but I can make either day.
See you guys soon.

Hello all - Not sure/remembering here if I ever met Ian & company but see you'll soon & hello all the same :)

If this poll (as is 2:2:2) was the results for the PNM, PP & ULP parties - Thursday being the PP party, see/guess we know what day we racing on ent hehehe

I like Ray's suggestion, Gordon's second, Steve and Ramesh's more or less the same but sorry Stevo, I really lost you towards the end there man :?

The only thing I think though with Gordon's suggestion - the "wet weather" racing sounding like full wet tyres to me on a scalextric sports track... So how about the intermediate tyres being the 1.5mm magnets instead... If so, I'm sure we all have some of these magnets sitting in our tool kits to make up six in total or else marshalls and stewards are going to have a very busy/shocking time :D

Hope you'll noticed I didnt curse there
