Race Report #144 - Thursday 3rd October, 2013

RACE REPORT #144 - October 3rd 2013

Once again we had just four drivers in attendance at FRC, this time to compete in our IROC Ferrari Challenge class and F1. After the recognising at the last event that the number 1 Ferrari was underpowered compared to the rest, I changed the motor for a new yellow Scaley 20K before the racing began, which brought it back in line with the rest. From this event we introduced the new weighted points structure where fewer points are awarded when we have fewer starters.

As expected, the Ferraris were very competitive and we ran six races so that each driver would drive each car as we had done with the Minis recently. Luke, Steve, Arden and myself each were race winners and the championship results, based on the new points structure, were very close in the end.

F1 had its drama with several high-speed out-of-slot moments, mostly by my McLaren and Arden's similarly-brand, but different model machine. My car came close to scaling the fencing on two occasions and Arden's actually went over it once, hit the wall and dropped dramatically to the ground. While this was going on Steve was steadily driving to 2nd place finishes with the wins being shared by Luke and Arden. Aside from me, the final championship results were also close.

New Lap Records
  • Ferrari Challenge - 6.652 sec (Luke, Scalextric Ferrari F430)

Hi Gordon,
fun night of racing as usual, even with only four protagonists. There seems to be an error in the point for the 4th F1 race however.

Hey GG - I made a mistake telling you Arden was racing a McLaren in the first 2 races.

Very sorry about that - It was his new Honda Jordan and burnt out the chip in the 2nd. race.

Hi Ray!

How you going?

Have to tell you man (as you may have noticed) that I got that F1 victory I was looking for, for quite sometime now & thanks to your help too because all went well building my Ferrari/Alonso F1 car :D I took about 2 hours doing so, two nights b4 race night & with a cold beer with every hour gone... I went to bed around 11pm and took my Ferrari with me and looked it over with a torchlight and see that all looked perfect. The best part was, just b4 I went to sleep - I put my car on top of my bible which is right next to me ;)

Thanks again and when will the FRC crew be seeing you next..?

HI Gordon,
sorry to trouble you again but the 4th F1 race is still showing points as 3, 1 and 0 with my name missing. My F1 total is shown here as 12 points but my 5 2nd places should have netted me 5x3 =15 points.
