Review of Vintage Sports recent motor rule change

Post by gordon »

Guys,

Active drivers will recall the recent rule change in the Vintage Sports class where we voted to leave the magnet rule as is but require standard motors as shipped with the cars. Previously we allowed either the standard motors or Slot.It 21,500 RPM motors (for cars that ship with FC-130 motors only). Ramesh is proposing that we allow either standard motors or motors rated up to 20,000 RPM. (Correct Ramesh?)

Let everyone know your thoughts on this below. When giving your opinion, keep in mind the information provided in the Slot Car News Motor List.

I really don't see the need to change the current regulations for this class. As can be seen from the last race report (#135), the cars are now fairly closely matched, the last pole time ,a Slot.it GT40, being only 0.07 sec. faster than a Scalextric GT40. If we look back at the previous event for these cars (race report #129), a great disparity between the 3 top cars (Slot.it-powered Scalextric GT40s) and the rest of the field is evident. I feel that the stock Scalextric cars (with their high level of magnetism)are quite a good match for the stock Slot.it cars (which may be a bit quicker in a straight line but more of a handful in the twisties )with the Revell-Monograms and MRRCs just a little behind. I believe that the most common FC-130 engined cars in this class are Scalextric which, as we see are very competitive with their standard 18k rpm motors. Allowing them 20k rpm motors will I believe, give them a quite useful advantage.
