RACE REPORT #78 - MAY 26th 2011

Luke pointed out that this race report was missing and on initial investigation I couldn't understand where it went. Strangely enough, checking a real calendar, the correct date for the Thursday of the week in question was the 26th, but when I checked the results database, the qualifying was entered as the 26th, but the results were entered as the 27th. Hmmm. Maybe we've uncovered a conspiracy!

I then decided to look up my sent emails and found the race report email, sent out on 17th May, 2011. Here it is reproduced completely (but with corrected dates) showing the reason the report never showed up on the forum (so much for conspiracy-theory):

Hi Guys,

The FRC Forum host had an update which has temporarily (I hope!) made the forum inaccessible so I'm sending out last night's race report in this e-mail. I'll post the report to the forum when its working again.

Race Report

Drivers started to arrive so late for the event that I thought I might just have to pack back up everything without doing any racing at all. Eventually, Laird and Luke arrived and they were followed by Steve (and Jonathan), Dougie, Alex and Kyle. As Steve wasn't planning to do any racing, that made six drivers when I was added to the list, so that meant that no one would be eliminated because of lack of a grid slots.

Scheduled classes were American Muscle, GT and LMP - our fast night - and we were treated to a very, very fast lap by Dougie driving his Camaro in qualifying, a stunning 4.302 seconds! This almost 4.2-bracket time removes Kyle as the owner of the record and will make it almost impossible to beat. The power base is set to ignore any lap under 4 sec, but his may have to be lowered at this rate. My Ferrari F430 managed to take pole in GT while Alex's Porsche 956 was quickest in LMP.

There were some really close and exciting races in all classes during the night, although the AM and GT pole sitters had perfect scores, winning all their races. A few cars left the table completely, my Mustang doing it twice and there were little green tyre barriers flying all over the place, two ending up as far as inside the kitchen! Yes, it was a fast, wild night at FRC. After the last race, we pitted the quickest cars still present against one another in a free-for-all series of laps and had a blast. The cars were close but Dougie's AM Camaro proved to be just slightly quicker than my GT Ferrari, Luke's LMP Porsche 962, Laird's GT Porsche 997 and my AM Boss Mustang (not necessarily in that order!).

Congratulations to all the winners.

As most of you already know, FRC will be closed for the next few weeks while I'm on vacation (the 24 hrs of Le Mans in France being a major part). Racing will resume when I return.

Take care till then...
