FTC next Event...

Post by Luke »

Fellas,

Again, here is the new idea (from Ramesh) having all the team/drivers race all the cars in the FTC event.

For the simple reason - that no one or two drivers get to race the best car/s for the whole event, which tends to be the case from its inception - Race Report #96/Thursday 15th. March 2012

Suggestion:
_________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

FRC FTC COMPETITION REGULATIONS

General - Same.

Car/Team Selection - The 6 persons (Gordon included) to arrive at FRC first, rolls the dice to select a 2 man team. More than 6 persons - rolls the dice as well but 6+ what they roll... To know what team they are on, as a third driver.

*Teams (named A,B & C) will be selected based on the following, using the numbers rolled on the dice.

A Team - 1st and 4th (cars 1 and 2)
B Team - 2nd and 5th (cars 3 and 4)
C Team - 3rd and 6th (cars 5 and 6)

If there is more than 6 drivers - the extras will be teamed like this:

7 drivers: 7 joins 3rd-6th - Automatically...
8 drivers: 7 joins 2nd-5th, 8 joins 3rd-6th - Roll of the dice but 6+ what they rolled...
9 drivers: 7 joins 1st-4th, 8 joins 2nd-5th, 9 joins 3rd-6th - Roll of the dice but 6+ what they rolled...

Qualifying - The three teams (A,B & C) then races the yellow, blue & red cars respectively for a pole position & whoes who next on the racing grid.

Chassis Rotation (now known as) Team/Drivers Rotation - Drivers of the Yellow (A Team) cars goes to Blue & then Red, then back to Yellow to get on with teams racing all cars.

Grid Positions - Based on first race (A team) drivers with the Yellow cars, goes on to race the Blue cars in their finishing positions and so on with Reds cars...

Driver Stations - Same.

Third Driver Substitutions - Same, more or less.

Under-subscribed Grid - Same.

*Chassis Rotation can still be done (randomly) before the event.

Hi Luke,
I will just reiterate what I said on this topic before. I think that the idea of drivers/teams changing cars is great as it levels the field if there are inconsistencies in the cars' performance. I am, however, against the idea of deciding the teams by a roll of the dice if there are more than 6 drivers present. As I said before, I think that this idea could work with up to 6 drivers, but if there are more than 6, is it fair for those arriving at FRC after the 6th person to have to be extras, even if they arrived well before the designated start time of the event ? I think that if there are more than 6, the only fair way to determine who the extras are would be by qualifying and the 6 team drivers be selected in the usual manner. The extras would be those who qualify 7th and lower.

A-okay Steve, all well and good with the big turnout @ FRC next event but...

Sure you know that two FRC regulars (Alex & David "boo") wont be raciing in the next FTC event because of personal reasons.

This means we may only have 6 "sure" racers - Gordon, Arden, Ramesh, Luke B, you and me... Maybe Mike & Marcus for 7 & 8 - So we might as well give the Car/Team Selection dice rolling a try for a faster turnover with time.

Hi Luke,
I would agree to this method if we were to do something like the following:
Have a designated 'Team Selection' time (say 8:00 PM). If at that time there are 6 or less drivers there, then use the dice. If at that time there are more than 6, have a qualifying session.
We also have to think of naming the teams as we can no longer have Team Yellow etc. as cars will be changed. I suggest that we name the teams after some well known Ferrari sports car racing drivers (suggestions ? ) eg. Ickx, Redman etc.

I think we should always qualify the IROC cars and cars used should be based on driver choice. So, if you choose a fast car, good for you. If you don't ... well it was your choice. After all, doing this gives the pole man an extra point for effort and there's also the bragging rights for the lap record at stake. We can just roll the dice for the order in which we qualify (as we always do these days).

Steve, how about we name the teams after some well known FRC FTC drivers... Gordon/Luke, Steve/Ramesh, Luke B/Arden, etc.? Just kidding, however maybe that's exactly how we should name them, using the actual team-up names of course.

GG - That informative suggestion I made to the top with Ramesh's idea for the FTC class... Would just come down to "If you do & If you dont" choose a fast car to qualify..?

It sounds like (just an example) Ramesh, you me or whoever will take full advantage of this method and go look-up last event report or remember it somehow for fastest car/s to pick next race night. I guess this is where Chassis Rotation comes in - I personally dont see was the big deal with rolling the dice the way I mentioned to select "big time saver" teams & qualifying the cars/teams after...

Or would we be just going about business (FTC event) as normal this Wednesday?

Some advice I got about using the Forum - Encourage not Discourage ;)

Hope I didnt sound like the latter :?: :)

Other suggestions for car selection for qualifying:
1) Everybody use the same car (with maybe a wipe of the tyres and braids between runs).
2) Roll a die to select car-totally random.

Steve, for the same reasons I gave above, I'd be happy to go with your number 1 suggestion but not your number 2.
