Following up on this post by Arden, I really want to come to a decision before the next VS event. From the comments in Arden's post, I can see three suggestions:
Revert the Scalextric GT40 to the original magnet configuration (2mm).
Allow all cars to have the same downforce. This means magnet marshal.
Allow only the stock motor that the car ships with from the manufacturer.
I believe that we should try something to even-out the cars and that something should not aim to bring everyone UP to the performance of the fastest cars, nor should it bring the cars DOWN to that of the slowest cars. Rather, it should aim to bring all cars to around the middle of these two extremes. Remember, this is not a modified class. We can try one of these suggestions and change things again if necessary till we achieve our objective.
Please vote in the poll above for the first change to try to this end.
Gordon - I think with this new ruling/change in VS all should go well because its just like the HS class atm "good 2 go" with OTB racing..
I have one problem though, dont/cant seem to understand this part of VS regs :/ Gearing:
Motor: Standard for the particular model. New - This is being implemented on a trial basis and is subject to revision. Gearing: Motor and axle gears may be changed.
and yet with this part of the regs, you still need to keep these parts stock...
Wheels: Standard for the particular model. Axles: Standard for the particular model. Tyres: Standard for the particular model but may be trued.
Good point Luke. That was changed several months ago when my MRRC Chaparral 2 crown gear became stripped and I could not find an original replacement. As you know these use offset (hypoid) crown gears like the Slot.It ones. Around the same time O'Brie had a similar problem. We discussed it and he felt that a car should not be retired if a part like this could be substituted by a part from another manufacturer. That's when I changed the rule. Perhaps it should read "... as long as the original ratio is maintained". In the case of my Chaparral, I made sure to use the same ratio as the original.
Maybe we should allow this in both VS and HS, with the provision that the ratio remain standard. This would allow cars with difficult-to-find gears to continue to race. At the moment keeping the same ratio is not stipulated.
This same scenario can also be applied to other items, tyres for example. We have to be careful that things don't get out of hand however.
I don't see a problem with the rules as written. With a Slot.it or NSR for example, manufacturers make a selection of axle gears which can be used on the standard axle . I believe that Scalextric makes a range of crown gears for their inline cars that fit their standard axle as well and these would also fit on Fly cars which use the same diameter axle. I don't think they offer a choice of sidewinder gears though. The rules as written would also allow one , for example , to use a Scalextric car with an NSR gear if it could be made to work (and I have heard of such things being done) once it is used on the Scalextric axle. What would be dis-allowed though, is a Scalextric car using said NSR gear on an NSR axle as in this case the axle would be changed which is against the rules.
HI GUYS , ON THE ISSUE OF VS RATIO BEING STANDARD , I WOULD,DISAGREE FOR MANY REASONS. BUT I WILL JUST MENTION A FEW. 1.. WE ALL SHOULD BE ALLOWED TO CHANGE OUT MOVING PARTS TO ANY BRAND OF 1 32 SCALE JUST FOR THE SAKE OF AVAILABILITY AND RELIABILITY, ALSO SINCE THE RACES ARE NOW 5 INSTEAD OF THREE.AS STEVE WAS TRYING TO EXPLAIN. 2 NOW BY PUTTING SOME CARS BACK TO STANDARD 18T FC MOTOR IN THE SW CARS. TO COMPETE WITH THE IN LINE FF WE WILL NEED THE RATIO OPTION. THE FF WILL HAVE TWO MAJOR ADVANTAGES ITS TORQUE AND ITS TOP SPEED . THANKS RAMESH
