Race report #128 - Thursday 23rd May, 2013

RACE REPORT #128 - MAY 32RD 2013

For our 128th event just five drivers were present to race in Porsche Cup and Historic Saloon, the latter taking the place of Modified Production at Arden's request. For this event we reverted to our one-car-at-a-time qualifying system which worked out very well (except for those who deslotted before completing the three timed laps). At Alex's suggestion we allowed driven-through cars to be re-slotted on track just before the start line (in the outer lane), while the perpetrator had to do the usual single stop-and-go in the pits and this too was a success.

The day before, I received six pairs of silicone tyres which I had ordered to improve the Porsches' handling. As it turned out, a better word than "improve" would be "transform", the cars being much faster than before in the corners and, as expected, lap times dropped significantly with a new lap record being set. The class saw some epic battles and a demonstration of some amazing defensive driving by Alex who at one time kept a row of three cars at bay for several laps, defending all attempts to overtake him.

Historic Saloon was also keenly contested, but the best action was definitely in the Porsche races.

Congratulations to the winners, particularly Steve for winning the lion's share of accolades.

Next event's classes: Modified Production - 3 races @ 30 laps, Vintage Sports - 3 races @ 30 laps, Group 5 Sports Car - 3 races @ 30 laps. Again, qualifying will be done one car at a time using the usual format. Don't forget to see the updated fastest times for the FRC classes to know what the benchmarks are for your cars, the updated class average qualifying times and the updated 2013 Class Points Standings.

See you on the circuit...

Great night of racing as usual, even though there was not a full grid. The Porsches are really running great now. It was inevitable that the lap record for this class was going to be broken, given how the cars are now handling shod with their new silicone tyres. That race with Alex playing 'block and tackle' was really something else ! Historic Saloon was also great fun, even with my Fiat 131 having some electrical issues in the second race. Was interesting getting a sneak preview of some new machines !
Looking forward to the next event.
Steve
PS Gordon, under 'New Lap Record' in the race report you have SC. This should read PC.

Almost all of the top racing (New PC Time - Pole/Win, CD & IP) points goes to Steve, which makes him "King of the Hill" with the night's racing :)

The only thing he didnt do with the HS races was get on pole...

He dominated so much (I guess) that it was forgotten to scan that Fiat 131 of his

Luke, I thought about that as well. The car has been put away, (my self-imposed Parc Ferme) and is available for scrutineering at the next event. All I did to it was to remove the silicones and front magnet !
