RACE REPORT #127 - MAY 16TH 2013
The usual crop of our fastest cars were joined by a couple of extremely quick TVRs from south boys Ramesh and son Luke. The competition was intense in qualifying as well as the races. Unfortunately, once there were more than four of these high-powered, over-magnetised machines on track, power losses slowed the cars to a literal crawl whenever they bunched up, taking away from what could have been more competitive and enjoyable racing. I must again say, I'm no fan of high-magnet racing since even when a car got a few clear, full-power laps (in the 4 sec region), driving it was just a matter of holding the throttle down flat out with maybe three lift-offs per lap on the 18-turn FRC track. Not something that requires much skill.
Nonetheless, Ramesh and Luke B.'s cars proved to be at the top more than anyone else. Unfortunately, several cars had reliability problems which prevented potential challengers (like Luke's Honda NSR in GT) from shaking up the final results. The grid of just three cars for the final races for LMP were a reflection of this attrition.
The Results
Congratulations to the winners.
Next event's classes: Porsche Cup - 6 races @ 30 laps, Modified Production - 3 races @ 30 laps. We'll have silicone tyres on the Porsches for the first time, so lap times should come down. Also, qualifying will be done one car at a time using the same format as we used to a couple of years ago. Don't forget to see the updated fastest times for the FRC classes to know what the benchmarks are for your cars, the updated class average qualifying times and the updated 2013 Class Points Standings.
See you on the circuit...
Gordon

Enjoyed the event's racing as usual, although I didn't participate. A pity that attrition was such a part of the proceedings. Very close results overall though. Well done southboys !

Luke B. & Ramesh (1-2) in Champion Driver of the Event seem to be the south lands dynmaic duo (engineer/driver) with slot car racing...

That's for sure Luke. Ramesh has certainly raised the bar with the preparation of his cars. We now have to meet the challenge,Luke wrote:Ramesh & Luke B. seem to be the south lands dynmaic duo (engineer/driver) with slot car racing...

GG - Did you also notice the "Star Wars" effect Ramesh had on us..?
That big passion of his with building slot cars and came with his two children as back-up ~ Luke and Leah
Plus cold beers for everyone

Thanks a lot guys, appreciated the time spent with you all with a hobby that we all passionately enjoy, both Luke and Léah enjoyed themselves thoroughly, Léah even mentioned she would not mind coming sometimes to help us marshal. Thanks guys for giving me the time off to drop Léah to her event in Port Of Spain, I would especially like to thank Steve for taking me to the venue, greatly appreciate it.
Now to racing, we enjoy the challenges and competition in all aspects, as we learn the track more we can be more consistently competitive. Appreciate all the comments, see you guys in June.
