A rainy Sunday's work

Post by gordon »

Guys,

With today's rainy weather, I took the opportunity to work on the cars for this week's upcoming Mixed GT racing. I first spent time trying to diagnose the problems we have been having with the #1 Porsche, testing it with another chip (by just disconnecting the existing chip and connecting another). Everything pointed to a faulty motor which I replaced with a proper-functioning one that I first cleaned with electronic cleaner spray, then ran it for a minute submerged in a mixture of distilled water and isopropyl alcohol to clean out internal grime. Everything now seems to be working propely with it, but we'll only know for sure when it is tested on the track.

Following this, the major part of the day comprised working on the Porsches and Ferraris to balance their magnetic downforce using the magnet marshal. I also did a bit more tyre truing on the Porsches and removed the excess motor shaft lengths which in some cases were rubbing on the tyres. I then opened and checked the #6 Lambo and serviced its motor, doing exactly what I did on the replacement Porsche motor.

I closed the day's work by doing some very minor work on my two rally cars as preparation for the stages we'll also be running this week.

Hi Gordon,
you really had a productive day, slot car-wise. You really seem to be becoming an expert in this running motors in water thing. I'm still a bit wary of doing it myself. Hopefully the # 1 Porsche is now sorted out. Still don't understand why the motor seemed to run smoothly when power (battery) was supplied directly to it but stuttered and stopped when run through the chip.
