Racing this coming Thursday 25th April

Post by gordon »

Hi Guys,

FRC will be open for practice/testing from 7:00 PM Thursday April 25th, followed by qualifying and racing. We're going to be doing a different type of racing this time. The cars are going to be FRC's IROC GT cars - Porsche Cup, Lambo Series and Ferrari Challenge cars. For want of a better name, I'm calling it "Mixed GT" racing. Although the cars are not a new type or era of car, this will effectively be a new class. Here's how its going to work:
  1. Drivers will roll a dice to select a car/controller for qualifying as usual.
  2. Each driver will decide which car to qualify - the Porsche, Lambo or Ferrari relating to the number he rolls.
  3. Grid/controller positions for the first race will be decided based on qualifying positions as usual.
  4. Drivers will rotate to the next controller for each of the six races.
  5. For each race, the driver decides which car he will drive for that controller position - the Porsche, Lambo or Ferrari. Each driver can only drive each type of car twice.
So, the scheduled classes for this event are Mixed GT - 6 races @ 30 laps, Rally Car - three 5-lap stages per car (1 car at a time).

Please bring your rally cars ready to run. Here's the proposed schedule:
  • 7:30 PM - Qualifying.
  • 8:00 PM - Racing starts. Again, drivers not ready when called to grid will be replaced by any standby drivers who are ready.
  • After racing - Packing up and liming/old talk (but not too late!).
You can see all the class regulations here and the general racing regulations here.

Don't forget to bring along some refreshments.

Ice Brigade: Arden (1 bag please).

Hi Gordon,
this is sounding very interesting ! We could end up therefore with a grid comprising Lamborghinis, Ferraris and Porsches in one race as well as (although very unlikely) with all six drivers choosing the same brand of car for a race !!
Looking forward to this very much.

Gordon - You always come up with some kind of GR8 idea for FRC racers :!:

It sounding like a next BLAST for the BOYZ :D

The part where each driver decides on which type car to qualify and sure we all go for Lambos... But with (2 x 3 type) cars to use is a nice twist for some great racing strategy ;)

If drivers have to drive with each of the six controllers and have their choice of car at each one (with the proviso that each type of car is raced twice), maybe there is no need to qualify. First race controller positions could be decided by a roll of the dice. If not, as Luke suggested, qualifying may be a Lambo shootout.

As you pointed out Steve, it probably does not make sense to qualify (unless we have more than 6 drivers).

How about only getting to use the car you qualify with ONCE. Obviously we would have to use one car 3 times if we did that.

Alex,

Interesting suggestion for the future, however it may be difficult enough keeping track of each person driving each type of car twice without having to add the extra complexity for the first event. Let's see how it goes on Thursday then we can look at variations for the future.
