Posting this for Luke to speed things up:
  • Pics of the Scalextric Sport Track ... laid out on the kitchen floor with and without barriers.

    It's fitting with a inch or two space all around ~ for a 8' X 4' X 3/4" sheet of ply.

Hello Gordon,

Not much effort was needed putting this list (below) of Scalextric Sport tracks together because they were all at hand (among some other sport tracks) just stacked up in a box for the longest while and feel there was a need to do something about ...
  • 1 Half Straight
    1 Half Straight (Starter Grid)
    1 Power Base
    1 Lap Counter/Timer
    2 Standard Straights
    2 R2 Curves (Crossover lanes)
    12 R2 Curves
The real effort needed though - is making this (17' 8" TRL circuit) layout fully operational for the enjoyment of racing slotcars. I must thank you for your help posting pics and other related info plus the encouragement from Steve and Ramesh.

As the days go along (taking it one step at a time) hopefully making this project a success - when completed, I could even do some much needed test/tuning on some of my not competing well 132 race cars :-)

Don't mean to be a bothersome person Gordon (not that I am mind you - hehe) but will it be oaky for you to post the 3 pics (I sent you recently) of the second track layout I am going and working with instead ..?
  • One without barriers and the other two (from different angles) with barriers.
To make things easier saving time on your end, I could do the reply write-up after ...

All in the interest of further progress because of your simple input with a suggested track design.

Most of all, not forgetting my manners ~ Good Morning :D

AOK Gordon,

Sorry I took so long for this written account (with second layout above) and thanks for posting pics ... as requested.

What was really interesting to me with this suggested (TRL 20' 10" compared to the 17' 8") design, being an extra 3+ feet racing distance. Is it only needed 3 more (extra) full straights to add to the all ready available track pieces.
  • 1 Half Straight
    1 Half Straight (Starter Grid)
    1 Power Base
    1 Lap Counter/Timer
    2 Standard Straights + 3 Standard Straights
    2 R2 Curves (Crossover lanes)
    12 R2 Curves
It's also noticeable the lap counter (with starter grid) was moved from the main straightaway because where it is now (photos 2 & 3), there will be more than enough room (not hanging off edge) and a perfect fit with the overall layout - on the 8 x 4 table.

The borders/barriers surrounding the track are all that I have presently and I will have to see about getting the rest to fit those notable blank spaces. Next would be 2 hand throttle controllers for the 2 (wall mount) power supply packs already connected to the power base.

As you know, it's not a problem with any slotcars ... but what's left for me to do is the cleaning of these tracks and the room it's going to be assembled in ...

Things are sort at a stand sill (for now) but the plans are all workable in 2017 ..!

Hope you and others like this write-up :-)

Here's a list of these items I have to work on to finish off track project ...
  • 2 Half Straight - borders & barriers ............... 1 pack C8223 x 4pcs.
    11 Inner R2 Curve - borders & barriers ......... 3 packs C8225 x 4pcs.
    3 Full Straight In/Out - borders & barriers ..... 3 packs C8233 x 2pcs.
These type items (borders & barriers) sure gives any Scalextric layout that finishing touch ...! I am even thinking about spray painting them (tan borders) in black ;-)

Luke, I think that spray painting the borders black is a fantastic idea. I believe that , particularly with low or non-magnet cars, over time, the sliding tyres will remove the paint from certain areas of the borders, leaving realistic looking tyre tracks.

Hello Steve,

I didn't think about that (and it's so true) other than for just a different look around the track. I remember seeing something like this (tan borders only - painted black) with some of Arden's stock of borders but what was interesting - the underneath wasn't painted black ... I thought to myself it's a good and practical idea for this sort of spray painting project.

Looking over pics - I may need 2 (maybe 3) tins of spray paint and most likely flat black application for this sort of project. Which will of course use up time and money I don't really need to do - so I might as well leave well alone when I reach this bridge of fitting borders/barriers around the circuit design.

Although - what's real good about this simple project - there's lots of room for many other cool ideas. For example - I could even consider green borders like FRC's ;-)

That said, hope I didn't disappoint you (Gordon & the others) with me not racing Thursday night.

I even thought of this while typing - to maybe consider some Saturday evening racing ..?

What's your take and most of all the boss himself (Gordon) with this suggestion :D

Luke I'm always up for doing a Saturday afternoon/evening event from time to time. As you know these are often for "special events" because of the extra time afforded, but we can even do the odd regular event on a Saturday if the other guys are up to it. Remember though that these also go into the night.
